Abstract

1388828 Syringes HOECHST UK LTD 20 April 1972 [20 Jan 1971] 2749/71 Heading A5R A surgical syringe has an element 10 located between a piston 3 and one end of the cylinder 5 to limit the stroke of a piston 3 in the cylinder 5. The element is fitted detachably to the face of the piston by a member 16. The cannula 12 is supported by a tubular casing 1 coupled to the piston rod 2 which has a bore for communication between the cylinder 5 and the cannula 2. As the piston is pushed into the cylinder 5 against the action of a spring 7, vaccine is forced through the member 16, along the bore of the piston rod 2, through a one-way valve 8 to the cannula 12. As the piston is withdrawn by the spring 7 vaccine is drawn into the cylinder 5 through a one-way valve 9. The element may be a cup-shaped body of polypropylene or a plastics sleeve. The body of the syringe may be of polycarbonate. A cover 15 is provided through which the cannula protrudes.
