Abstract
1345001 Copolyamides WOLFF WALSRODE AG 23 Dec 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 61028/70 Heading C3R A film-forming copolyamide comprises 80 to 90 wt. per cent units -NH-(CH 2 ) 11 -CO (I) and correspondingly 10 to 20 wt. per cent units -CO-Y-CO-NH-R-NH- (II) where Y is phenylene and/or -(CH 2 ) n -, n is at least 4, and R is derived from a mixture of the 2,2,4- and 2,4,4-isomers of trimethylhexamethylene diamine or from isopherone diamine. It may be prepared by reacting at 240 to 340‹ C. (a) aminododecanoic acid, laurolactam, or nylon 12 with (b) a phthalic (preferably terephthalic) acid and/ or HOOC-(CH 2 ) n -COOH and (c) the above diamine(s) or the salt(s) of (b) and (c), optionally in the presence of a viscosity stabilizer, e.g. a monocarboxylic acid or monoamide, and a reaction accelerator, e.g. phosphoric acid or an ester thereof. Polymers produced in the examples have relative viscosities (1 g/100 ml. 96% H 2 SO 4 at 25‹ C.) from 1À32 to 1À51 and melting ranges between 137 and 162‹ C. They may be formed into flat or tubular mono- or multi-layer shrinkable or non-shrinkable films of low water absorption and good solvent-resistance and ink and dye affinity. They may be used for sausage casings. Reference is made to Specifications 1,305,786; 1,216,443; 1,172,428 and 1,172,427.
