Abstract
1,238,351. Hexamethylene diamine. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 3 Jan., 1969 [17 Jan., 1968], No. 2535/68. Heading C2C. Hexamethylene diamine containing colourforming impurities is purified by distilling it in the presence of a mixture comprising sodium and potassium hydroxides in a molecular ratio of from 1À0 NaOH: 1À0 KOH to 2À6 NaOH: 1À0 KOH. The hydroxide mixture preferably has the composition of the eutectic mixture, i.e. it has a molecular ratio of 1À6 NaOH: 1À0 KOH, and is generally used in an amount of 0À01 to 1À0% by weight, based on the weight of the hexamethylene diamine. A minor amount of lithium hydroxide with respect to the total weight of the hydroxide mixture may also be present in the mixture.
