Abstract
1,220,022. Measuring forces electrically. LEAR SIEGLER, Inc. March 21, 1969, No. 14905/69. Heading G1N. The torque and axial thrust applied by a pilot, to a steering wheel (30) Fig. 2 (not shown) on an outer member 20, are sensed by differential transformers 90, 98 respectively. Axial thrust produces flexure of spring rings 24 so that the housing 94 of transformer 98 is axially displaced relative to its core 100. Rotary forces cause the leaf springs 26 to flex so that middle member 22 rotates relative to the inner member 14, which middle member supports the core 91 of the transformer 90. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) spring rings 24 are replaced by a bellows.
