Abstract

120,886. Holslag, C. J. Oct. 24, 1917, [Convention date]. Transformers for welding have part of the secondary associated with the primary and another part remote therefrom, but on the same magnetic circuit, and a magnetic shunt for diverting part of the flux. The primary 3 is wound on the leg 2 of the core and the parts 4, 5 of the secondary on the legs 2, 6 respectively, with the flux-diverter 9 arranged between the legs. When the switch 10 is closed, the secondary 5 can be used with the diverter. Or both secondaries 4, 5 may be used, and the core may be designed to invite leakage between the legs, so that the diverter 9 is not necessary. Where a. two-phase supply is employed, two separate transformer units may be employed with the primaries connected across the separate phases and the secondaries connected in series. With a three-phase supply, three transformer units, or, as an alternative, two units with their primaries connected as in the Scott system, may be employed.
