Abstract
1,257,512. Synthetic paper. SEKISUI KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 9 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968; 28 Oct., 1968], No. 29155/69. Headings C3G and C3P. A synthetic paper comprises a film made from a homogeneous composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a styrene containing polymer, 1-100 parts by weight of an ethylene containing polymer and 1-200 parts of an inorganic filler comprising calcium carbonate, silica, clay, talc, zinc sulphide or titanium oxide. Polymers exemplified are polystyrene, high impact polystyrene, ABS resin, acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer, methyl methacrylate-styrene copolymer, polyethylene, chlorinated polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, ethylenevinyl chloride copolymer, ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer or an ethylene-acrylic acid ionomer. The composition may also contain further polymers, e.g. polybutadiene, SBR, GRN and polyvinyl acetate, plasticizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, stabilizers, e.g. tribasic lead sulphate and hydroxyphenyl benzotriazole, surface-active agents and other fillers. The films may be biaxially oriented. The surfaces of the films may also be treated with a first solvent that is a solvent for the styrene polymer and then a second solvent which is not a solvent for the styrene polymer but which is miscible with the first solvent.
