Abstract

1,139,587. Grinding. TRIEFUS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 Feb., 1966, No. 6910/66. Heading B3D. A band saw comprises segmented cutting elements which may be of diamond, diamond impregnated material, such as diamond particles in a matrix of bronze, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide or tantalum carbide. The cutting elements include two sets of portions 11, 12, one set being offset towards one side of the side of the band and the other set being offset to the other side of the band. Each element also includes wafers 20, 21 secured to faces 22, 23 of the portions so as to extend from planes 24, 25 through a medial plane 13 of the saw. The length A of the portions should not exceed <SP>1</SP>/ 4 inch and is preferably <SP>3</SP>/ 16 inch in a band saw having a length of 10 to 30 feet, a width of 0À65 to 3À5 inch and a thickness of 0À02 to 0À125 inch. The length B of the wafers is preferably <SP>5</SP>/ 16 inch. In another embodiment, the saw 30, Fig. 3, has cutting elements consisting of portions 31 of less thickness than the band and wafers 36 of diamond-impregnated material fixed to the faces 37, 38 of the portions.
