Abstract
1,104,286. Carrying conductors into casings. MICANITE & INSULATORS CO. Ltd. 15 Dec., 1965 [15 Dec., 1964], No. 51053/64. Heading H2E. A lead-through connector comprises a hollow conductor 4 surrounded by insulators 15, 16 and an intermediate metal flange member 17 which are clamped together by springs housed within the conductor 4. As shown, rods 2 secured to a terminal piece 6 carry compression springs 3 which interact between bushes 9 on the rods 2 and discs 8 secured to rods 1, fixed to a bridge 5. A cap 12 clamped between the bridge 5 and the insulator 16 has a terminal piece 13 connected to the conductor 4 by a flexible lead 14. Layers of insulating material with conducting layers between them may be arranged between the conductor 4 and the insulators 15, 16 and the flange member 17, or alternatively stress shields and insulating barriers may be provided, the remaining space being filled with insulating fluid. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the insulator (7) extends within the insulator (16), while in a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the compression springs are replaced by tension springs.
