Abstract

1,171,718. Disc brakes; bolted joints; retainers. W. BUSCH and H. FRIEDERICHS, [trading as BERGISCHE STAHL INDUSTRIE]. 5 Sept., 1967 [11 March, 1967], No. 40471/67. Headings F2E and F2H. Means for securing brake discs 13, 14 of a disc brake on each side of the disc portion 11 of a vehicle wheel comprises a radially resilient tubular member or sleeve 18 which is adapted to pass through holes 17, 21 in the wheel disc 11 and brake discs 13, 14 and each end of the member or sleeve 18 is provided with a radially outwardly extending flange 26 which engages an annular shoulder 16 or in an annular groove in the hole of each disc. The discs 13, 14 are secured to, e.g. a rail vehicle wheel by discs 19 held together by a bolt 20, or the ends of the sleeve 18 may be formed with projections (37, Fig. 3, not shown), which engage with grooves (35) in the brake discs 13, 14. The ends (36) of the projections (37) are shaped so as to facilitate insertion into holes (34) in the brake discs. The sleeve 21 has a slot 18a so as to allow thermal expansion of the discs radially outwardly. Each brake disc 13, 14 is located by recesses 23 on a corresponding shoulder 11a on the disc 11 of the wheel. The brake discs 13, 14 are spaced from the wheel disc 11 by hubs 16 and (24, Fig. 2, not shown), to allow cooling of the discs, which can be increased by fins (25) at the inner side of the discs 13, 14.
