1,165,356. Cooling dynamo-electric machines; mounting rotors. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 3 Oct., 1966 [4 Oct., 1965], No. 44037/66. Heading H2A. A dynamo-electric machine having two fans, to produce separate internal and external currents of air, mounted on a sleeve which extends outside the housing and is adapted to rotate on the rotor shaft, is characterized in that the sleeve is mounted in bearings both with respect to the rotor shaft and with respect to a bearing end-plate, and serves as the single bearing for the shaft at this end of the machine. As shown, 1 is the rotor shaft of an enclosed internally and externally ventilated machine. A sleeve 2, mounted on bearings 3 on the rotor shaft 1 and by means of a bearing 4 with respect to a fixed bearing bracket 5, carries fans 6 and 8. The inner fan circulates the internal air of the machine and guides it along the inner surface of cooling ribs 7; the outer fan draws in ambient air through the machine hood 9 and forces it over the outer surface of the ribs 7. The sleeve 2 has a pulley 10 for a toothed belt, driven (preferably more rapidly) by an auxiliary motor.
