Abstract
1,061,255. Heat exchangers; waste heat boilers. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPFG.m.b.H. May 21, 1964 [May 25, 1963], No. 21088/64. Headings F4A and F4S. In a heat exchanger, comprising heat exchange tubes 3 disposed in a tubular jacket 2 between distributor and collector heads 4, fitted over the two ends of the jacket, the heads are each of one-piece solid construction with inward facing pipe-like protrusions 5 fashioned out of the solid material which are welded to the heat exchange tubes 3, and an integral flange 6 which is welded to the jacket 5. The pipe like protrusions have bores 9 which communicate with transverse bores 8 extending through outside pipelike protrusions 7, to which are connected inlet and outlet ducts as appropriate. The heat exchange tubes 3 may be forked, as shown, to reduce the number of welds required. The internal bores 8, 9 of the heads 4 may be arranged as shown or they may be arranged to provide an inlet and outlet both at the same head, which is convenient when a number of heat exchangers are combined. Inlet and outlet ports 10 for a cooling medium are included in the jacket 2. The heat exchanger is intended for the cooling of a high pressure synthesis gas, flowing through the tubes, by water which in an assembly of the heat exchangers, Fig. 4 (not shown), forming a waste heat boiler, is vaporized to form steam which passes to a separator drum (15). Water is carried from the drum back to the heat exchangers by a pipe (16).
