Abstract
1,060,915. Power hammers. GESELLSCHAFT FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. May 31, 1965 [July 10, 1964], No. 22973/65. Heading B3H. A die forging machine includes a pair of opposed hammers 1 which are forced together by means of a common pneumatically operated driving piston 6, and which are urged apart hydraulically. To initiate forging, a solenoid operated valve 26 is actuated to cause a slide valve 26 to move to the left. Fluid from a supply pipe 23a is then directed along conduits 23 and 22 to move a spring-biased pilot valve 16 to the right. This blocks a supply conduit 18 to chambers 12 and 14, and connects the chambers with conduits 13 and 15 leading to piston-cylinder assemblies 2, 3 for the hammers. The driving piston 6 is forced by compressed nitrogen to the left, thus causing its faces 8 and 9 of equal area to force fluid into the piston cylinder assemblies 2, 3 to produce forging. A pilot valve 24 is simultaneously moved to the left to interrupt the conduits 22 and 23 and allow the pilot valve to be spring returned to its initial position. The piston cylinder assemblies are exhausted through conduits 13, 15 and 19, to allow hydraulic fluid in reservoirs 5 to urge the hammers to their starting position. It is possible to provide more than one pair of opposed hammers.
