Abstract
1,051,703. Coating glass with enamels. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 13, 1965 [Sept. 16, 1964], No. 38979/65. Heading C1M. A glass object is strengthened by coating with a layer of a glaze or vitreous enamel having a lower coefficient of thermal expansion -than that of the glass and heated at a temperature above the softening point of the glaze or enamel to fuse the coating to the glass, the composition of the glass being within the range in percentages by weight:-SiO 2 , 40-65; Al 2 O 3 , 20-36; Na 2 O+K 2 O+Li 2 O, 10-26; Li 2 O, 0-10; CaO, 0-10; MgO, 0-10. Examples are given. The glaze is preferably a crystallizing glaze and the example given is ZnO, 67À1; B 2 O 3 . 29À0; SiO 2 , 3À9.
