Abstract

Infra-red radiation detector based on the Seeback effect as described in the parent patent, comprises an elementary sensitive cell consisting of positive and negative thermoelectric branches of homogeneous materials each connected to the same absorbent metal plate by an intermetallic solirtion junction obtd. by diffusin over at least part of the thickness of the plate of the material of the corresponding branch. Specifically, each branch is made from a sintered powdered material. The cell shows improved performance, sensitivity and viability; while being mechanically stronger. Hence they can be used in mechanically difficult environmental conditions where they are exposed to shocks or vibrations of large amplitude.
