Abstract
Prefabricated hood for a domestic chimney is mfd. from a mixt. of plaster, binder, low density expanded mineral prod. opt. an inert filler (esp. CaCO3) and a ridged reinforcing panel. The mixt. is wetted to a slurry, a first layer about 2cm thick is poured into a mould laid flat, the bottom of which reproduces the apparent shape of the hood, the reinforcing panel is put in place on this layer, and a second layer of mixt. is cast on the panel. The moulding is allowed to set, demoulded and dried. Low density, light weight hoods can be made in single piece panels each of individual weight 40kg so that they can be transported and carried by one man. The material of the hood is not attached by plaster and will support elevated temps. without deterioration.
