Abstract

The machine for laying new railway track uses a previously installed temporary wide-gauge track (22) as its support. It includes a train of double-decked flat wagons to supply sleepers and rails to the operational gantry (17). The top deck is continuous and demountable and carries the sleepers (7), and the lower deck carries the rails (4). A service gantry with lifting gear travels on rails on the top deck, and feeds sleepers (7) progressively to the leading wagon. The operational gantry lifts sleepers from the leading wagon and moves forward to place them in position on the ballast.
