Abstract
Anti-rabies vaccine comprising inactivated rabies virus obtd. from a fixed, rabid strain of virus which is adapted to the primary transplantation cells of foetal calf kidney by serial passage in these cells, the adapted rabies virus being inoculated into the cells after suitable tissue culture and removal of medium, the incubation and virus culture being continued to give a viral suspension which is separated, inactivated and converted into the active vaccine, which is for use in man and animals, gives rise to no adverse side-effects e.g. encephalitis or local reactions. IT is a more economic process cf. earlier techniques using tissues, eg. brain. High antibody titses are produced giving a complete resistance to rabies. no serum proteins are present.
