Abstract

The flow of fuel to an injection orifice 5 is controlled in accordance with the position of an auxiliary throttle member 3 upstream of the main throttle valve 2 and the injection orifice is aligned with an orifice 6. The space between the orifices 5 and 6 forms part of a chamber 8 communicating with the induction passage portion B between the member 3 and the valve 2 at least at low air-flows. The member 3 is moved against the bias of the spring 14 by a diaphragm 10 subjected to the pressure in induction passage portion B in chamber 11 and the pressure upstream of the member in chamber 12. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the auxiliary throttle butterfly valve (3a) is operated by a diaphragm (10a) and the port (9a) opening to the induction passage 1 from the chamber 8 is downstream of the auxiliary throttle valve (3a) with the valve slightly open and upstream of the valve with the valve more fully open. The fuel control needle 18, 19 is operated by a solenoid 17 which is energized for a fraction of each of the rotations of a rotary member. The solenoid may be energized as described in Specification 1, 207, 228.
