Definitions
- the invention relates to a water-soluble packaging comprising an agent and a water-soluble coating.
- the invention also relates to a process for producing a water-soluble packaging.
- Detergents or cleaners are now available to the consumer in a variety of forms.
- this offer includes, for example, liquids, gels or sachets (tablets or filled pouches).
- portion packs in the form of water-soluble packaging with liquid detergents or cleaners are becoming increasingly popular, they fulfill the one hand, the consumer's desire for simplified dosage and on the other hand more and more consumers prefer liquid detergents or cleaners.
- Such a water-soluble bag contains an agent and a transparent, water-soluble wrapper.
- the International Patent Publication WO 96/08555 A1 discloses a dishwashing detergent packaged in a water-soluble film wherein the water-soluble film may be coated with the bitrex® (denatonium benzoate) bitumen to prevent children from inadvertently swallowing the packaged detergent.
- bitrex® denatonium benzoate
- Denatonium benzoate is considered the bitterest known substance and has a bitter value greater than 100,000,000.
- a disadvantage of coating a water-soluble packaging with Bitrex® is that the users of the water-soluble packaging take the packaging for dosing into their hands and thus also come into contact with the Bitrex®. If a user, after touching the water-soluble packaging, puts his hand in the direction of the mouth, small amounts of Bitrex® remaining in the hand are enough to negatively affect the sense of taste for a few hours.
- the object of the invention is therefore to provide water-soluble packaging with higher child safety, but without negative effects in normal use.
- a water-soluble package containing an agent and a water-soluble wrapper in which the water-soluble wrapper at least partially has a bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000.
- bitter substances having these bittering values have a sufficiently high bitter taste to prevent children from keeping a water-soluble package with this bittering agent in or around the mouth, but not so bitter upon regular use of the water-soluble package the hand remaining residue of a bitter substance in case of accidental contact of the hand with the mouth irritate the taste buds of the user strongly and unpleasantly for a longer period of time.
- the invention relates to a water-soluble packaging containing an agent and a water-soluble wrapper.

Die internationale Patentveröffentlichung
Denatoniumbenzoat gilt als die bitterste bekannte Substanz und besitzt einen Bitterwert größer 100.000.000.Denatonium benzoate is considered the bitterest known substance and has a bitter value greater than 100,000,000.
A disadvantage of coating a water-soluble packaging with Bitrex® is that the users of the water-soluble packaging take the packaging for dosing into their hands and thus also come into contact with the Bitrex®. If a user, after touching the water-soluble packaging, puts his hand in the direction of the mouth, small amounts of Bitrex® remaining in the hand are enough to negatively affect the sense of taste for a few hours.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide water-soluble packaging with higher child safety, but without negative effects in normal use.
This object is achieved by a water-soluble package containing an agent and a water-soluble wrapper in which the water-soluble wrapper at least partially has a bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000.
It has surprisingly been found that bitter substances having these bittering values have a sufficiently high bitter taste to prevent children from keeping a water-soluble package with this bittering agent in or around the mouth, but not so bitter upon regular use of the water-soluble package the hand remaining residue of a bitter substance in case of accidental contact of the hand with the mouth irritate the taste buds of the user strongly and unpleasantly for a longer period of time.

Other suitable films include films named Solublon® PT, Solublon® GA, Solublon® KC or Solublon® KL from Aicello Chemical Europe GmbH or the films VF-HP from Kuraray.
The water-soluble wrapper has at least partially a bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000.
The bittering agent having a bitter value of between 1,000 and 200,000 may be applied, for example, to the outer surface of the water-soluble wrapper or contained in the water-soluble wrapper.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the outer surface of the water-soluble casing is at least partially coated with a bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000. In this connection, it is particularly preferable that the water-soluble coating is coated with at least 50%, preferably at least 75%, and most preferably at least 90%, with the bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000.
The application of the bittering agent with a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000, for example, by means of printing, spraying or deletion.
In principle, any form of printing can be used to print the water-soluble wrapper, such as gravure, offset, screen, flexo, airbrush, inkjet or pad printing, or any combination of these printing technologies. Printing by means of ink-jet printing preferably takes place since no mechanical contact with and thus no mechanical loading of the water-soluble coating occurs with this printing technology. The same applies to direct printing with piezo technology, as it also takes place without contact.
In principle, the printing medium, which is applied to the water-soluble coating, contain other ingredients, such as a coloring substance.
Alternatively, the bittering agent having a bitter value of between 1,000 and 200,000 may be painted on the outer wrapper by means of a brush, roller or the like.
In another alternative, the bittering agent is sprayed with a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 by means of an atomizer.
The application of the bittering agent with a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 may take place in the form of surfaces, so that the water-soluble coating is at least partially covered with a bitter substance having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000. Alternatively, the application of the bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 may be in the form of letters, numbers, symbols, ornaments or the like. The latter is particularly preferable when the bitter substance having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 is applied by means of printing, and the printing medium contains a coloring matter in addition to the bitter substance having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000.
Alternatively, for application to the outer surface of the water-soluble wrapper, the bittering agent having a bitter value of between 1,000 and 200,000 may be incorporated in the film material of the water-soluble wrapper.
Bitter substances are all chemical compounds that have a bitter taste.
The bitter substance has a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000. The bitterness is the inverse of the dilution of a substance, a liquid or an extract that just tastes bitter.
Zur Bestimmung des Bitterwertes wird das im Europäischen Arzneibuch (5. Ausgabe Grundwerk, Stuttgart 2005, Band 1 Allgemeiner Teil Monografiegruppen, 2.8.15 Bitterwert S. 278) beschriebene standardisierte Verfahren verwendet. The standardized method described in the European Pharmacopoeia (5th Edition, Grundwerk, Stuttgart 2005, Volume 1 General Part Monograph Groups, 2.8.15 Bitter Value, p. 278) is used to determine the bitterness value.
As a comparison serves an aqueous solution of quinine hydrochloride whose bitterness value is set at 200,000. This means that 1 gram of quinine hydrochloride makes 200 liters of water bitter. The interindividual taste differences in the organoleptic test of bitterness are compensated by a correction factor in this method.

The use of a mixture of bitter substances may be advantageous because humans have a different number of taste cells on the tongue. In addition to so-called super-tasters and normal gourmets, there are also so-called non-gourmets, the individual bitter substances do not taste or slightly. By using a mixture of at least two bittering agents with a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000, the risk of the bittering agent acting as a deterrent being not tasted at all can be reduced. The amount of bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 depends in particular on the desired intensity of the bitter taste. If the bittering agent is contained in the water-soluble coating, the amount of bittering agent is between 1 and 30 g per m 2 surface of the water-soluble coating. When the bittering agent is applied to the outer surface of the water-soluble wrapper, the amount of the bittering agent is from 1 to 30 g per m 2 of the coated surface of the water-soluble wrapper.

For producing a water-soluble wrapper containing at least partially a bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000, the bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 is added to the film material.
This can be done, for example, in which (a) a water-soluble polymer, which preferably contains polyvinyl alcohol or a polyvinyl alcohol copolymer, alone or in combination with at least one further water-soluble polymer, a solvent, the bittering agent having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 and optionally further additives a matrix is combined, (b) a film is formed from the matrix, and (c) the film is dried to a water-soluble film having, at least in part, a bitter substance having a bitterness value between 1,000 and 200,000.
The formation of the film can be done, for example, by means of casting and Gegenlaufwalzenstreichens.
Alternatively, a film at least partially having a bittering value of between 1,000 and 200,000 may be obtained, in which (a) a water-soluble polymer, preferably containing polyvinyl alcohol or a polyvinyl alcohol copolymer, alone or in combination with at least one other water-soluble polymer, a solvent, the bitter substance having a bitter value between 1,000 and 200,000 and optionally further additives is combined into a matrix; and (b) by extrusion of the matrix, a water-soluble film having, at least partially, a bitter substance having a bitter value of between 1,000 and 200,000 is obtained.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to two embodiments.
To produce a water-soluble package with the liquid detergent or cleaning agent E1, a film of the type M 8630 (ex Monosol) having a thickness of 76 μm was pulled into a depression by means of a vacuum to form a bulge. Subsequently, the bulge was filled with 30 ml of the liquid detergent or cleaning agent E1. After covering the agent-filled protrusions with a second layer of a film containing polyvinyl alcohol, polylactic acid, 1,2-propanediol and glycerin and having a thickness of 76 μm, the first and second layers were sealed together. The sealing temperature was 150 ° C and the sealing time 1.1 seconds.
Subsequently, the entire outer surface of the water-soluble package was uniformly sprayed on both sides by means of a nebulizer with a sucrose octaacetate-containing aqueous medium. The amount of sucrose octaacetate per water-soluble package was 2000 ppm. The liquid was absorbed within 5 seconds by the water-soluble coating.
To produce a water-soluble packaging V2 with the liquid washing or cleaning agent E1, a first layer of a film containing polyvinyl alcohol, polylactic acid, sucrose octaactate, 1,2-propanediol and glycerol, with a thickness of 76 microns to form a recess by means of vacuum in pulled a hollow. Subsequently, the bulge was filled with 30 ml of the liquid detergent or cleaning agent E1. After covering the agent-filled bulges with a second layer of a film containing polyvinyl alcohol, polylactic acid, sucrose octaactate, 1,2-propanediol, and glycerol and having a thickness of 76 μm, the first and second layers were sealed together. The sealing temperature was 150 ° C and the sealing time 1.1 seconds. The first and second film webs each contained sucrose octaacetate in an amount of 2000 ppm.
In both cases, a fast-recognizable, unpleasantly bitter taste of the water-soluble coating was confirmed by a panel of 10 persons.
After 4, 8 and 12 weeks storage time of the water-soluble packaging V1 and V2 with the washing or cleaning agent E1 under different climatic conditions, no arrival or dissolution of the water-soluble coating could be observed. In addition, no pores or holes, which would also lead to product leakage or leaks, were found.
Water-soluble packaging V1 and V2 with the washing or cleaning agent E1 dissolved in washes at temperatures ranging from 20 to 95 ° C, leaving no residue.
In addition, contact of the water-soluble packaging with skin, especially when in contact with dry or slightly moist hands, no lasting and / or disturbing carry over the bitterness of the skin could be found.
The determination of the persistence and / or irritation of the bitter substance was made by 10 volunteers who held a water-soluble package in the hand for 5 seconds and then placed their hands in contact with their tongue for 5 seconds. In both water-soluble packaging V1 and V2 all subjects noticed no or only a maximum of 1 minute a slightly unpleasant bitter taste.
