Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of lens polishing.
- polishing In the manufacture of spectacle lenses, polishing is particularly important. It is a question of obtaining on the one hand a quality of finish sufficient to obtain an optical polish to have the transparency of the lens, or to remove defects of surface state during the preceding operation of machining called generation . On the other hand, it is a question of obtaining as precisely as possible the prescribed radii of curvature, so that the actual correction corresponds to the recommended correction, without deformation of the surface which has been generated.
- the document US-2005/0221721 proposes a lens polishing device, wherein the polishing tool is mounted on a tool holder attached to the end of a shaft movable in rotation about its axis and movable in translation along its axis.
- the tool holder is also rotatable about a vertical axis passing close to the tool holder.
- the lens is held on a holding block attached to the end of a rotating shaft about its axis, and in translation along its axis.
- This holding block is also movable in translation along a perpendicular horizontal axis. All these possibilities of movement allow any freedom of positioning of the tool relative to the lens.
- the polishing is not sufficiently regular, the support force of the tool on the lens is not identical in all positions.
- the present invention proposes to remedy at least some of the aforementioned drawbacks and proposes a solution that makes it possible to improve the regularity of the bearing pressure of the tool on the lens.
- the present invention further relates to a method of polishing optical lenses using a polishing device according to the invention, wherein said tool describes a circular sinusoid-shaped path.
- a complete revolution does not correspond to an integer number of periods of said trajectory, so that the points of contact between the tool and the lens are not identical between two consecutive turns.
- said lens may comprise zones with different radii of curvature so as to allow use in progressive vision glasses, and the combination of the settings makes it possible to keep the tool always perpendicular to the area of the surface to be polished.
- the advantage of the present invention lies in particular in that it allows polishing along paths ensuring regular polishing on the entire surface of the lens to be polished. It also allows adjustment of the pressure of the tool on the lens at any time, thus guaranteeing a better polishing quality.
- a device 1 for polishing lenses comprises a tool 2, a tool holder 3 rotatable about its axis A, and movable in translation along said axis A.
- the assembly is also movable in rotation about a substantially vertical axis V, which axis V passes close to the tool holder 3, so that the rotational movement about the axis V does not produce significant displacement of the tool, but only its rotation.
- the device 1 further comprises a lens holder 4 adapted to hold a lens 5, and fixed at the end of a shaft 6 mobile in rotation about its axis Z, and movable in translation along said axis Z.
- the assembly door lens, and its shaft are also movable in translation along an axis X perpendicular to the axis Z in the horizontal plane, so that the lens holder can move towards or away from the tool, but also move laterally relative to the tool.
- the present invention relates to a device 1 for polishing lenses.
- the lens 5 is disposed on a lens holder 4 attached to the end of a shaft 6, rotatable about its axis Z.
- a motor 7 is mechanically connected to the shaft 6 and able to rotate it.
- a translation device 8 makes it possible to impart a horizontal translational movement to the lens holder assembly 4 and shaft 6, so that the lens 5 can be moved horizontally while rotating it about the Z axis.
- the tool holder assembly can be moved instead of moving the lens.
- a tool 2 is fixed on a tool holder 3.
- This tool holder comprises a tool support body 16 in which is formed a space 23 may include a gas, for example air.
- a elastic membrane 17, for example flat, is fixed on the one hand to the tool support body by a locking ring 18, on the other hand to the tool holder 19. This is therefore movable relative to the tool support body, so that the pressure exerted on the tool support by the polishing operation results in a reduction of the volume inside the tool support body, and therefore an increase in the pressure.
- a pressure detector 20 makes it possible to measure this pressure variation and to transmit the information to a data processing means such as a PLC or a computer, which then controls a movement of the tool holder towards the lens, if the pressure has decreased, or a movement away from the lens if the pressure has increased.
- a data processing means such as a PLC or a computer
- the elastic membrane 17 also makes it possible to transmit the rotational torque of the tool support body 16 to the tool support 19.
- a connecting piece 21 is clipped onto the tool support.
- This piece is for example plastic.
- a foam pad 22 is glued to the connecting piece 21, and the tool 2 is glued to the pad 22.
- This tool 2 may take the form of an abrasive polishing sheet.
- the pad is deformable, which allows automatic orientation of the polishing sheet tangent to the lens.
- the elastic membrane enhances the flexibility of the tool.
- the tool carrier is attached to an articulated shaft 9 movable in rotation about its axis, and attached to a support shaft 10, which is here an upper shaft 10, via a ball 11.
- the upper shaft 10 is driven in rotation about its axis by a motor 12, a belt 13, or a chain ensuring the mechanical connection between said motor 12 and the upper shaft 10.
- the ball 11 allows the articulated shaft 9 to take an inclination relative to vertically noted ⁇ in the remainder of this description, while transmitting the rotational movement of the upper shaft to the articulated shaft 9, so that the articulated shaft 9 is rotated about its axis.
- the inclination ⁇ of the articulated shaft 9 is controlled by a device 14 for horizontal displacement of a point of the articulated shaft 9. Any other device for controlling the inclination could also be suitable.
- a box 15 is rotatable about a substantially vertical axis, and drives the device 14 of horizontal displacement in a path of rotation about the axis of the upper shaft 10.
- the articulated shaft 9 can therefore rotate not only around its axis, but also around the vertical axis of the upper shaft 10, so that the tool holder, while turning on itself describes a path around the vertical, which can be circular if the device 14 for horizontal movement keeps the articulated shaft in a fixed position relative to the vertical, but which can also describe a circular sinusoid, if the device 14 describes a reciprocating movement during the rotation of the box 15 .
- the upper shaft 10 is referred to herein as "upper”, and is actually located above the articulated shaft 9 in the embodiment of Fig. 2 . But it could also be located next to or below the articulated shaft 9. For the purposes of this patent application, it will nevertheless be called “upper tree”, although it may be lower.
- the Fig. 4 to 6 illustrate such a movement, with the tool describing a circle on this trajectory.
- the Fig. 5 indicates the variation of the angle ⁇ as a function of the rotation angle ⁇ over a whole turn (360 °) around the vertical axis.
- the Fig. 6 indicates the variation of the distance d of the device 14 with respect to the axis of the upper shaft as a function of the rotation angle ⁇ over a whole turn (360 °) around the vertical axis.
- These two curves are of the sinusoidal type in the sense that the curve passes above and below the abscissa axis periodically.
- the Fig. 4 illustrates the trajectory obtained on the lens, of circular sinusoid type, in the sense that the trajectory passes outside and inside a circle, periodically.
- the tool holder turns on itself while describing this trajectory. There will be a phase shift between the back and forth movement of the device 14, and the rotation about the vertical axis, producing a difference in trajectory after each turn.
- the tool finds the same point of the lens after three turns.
- the lens is not circular but oval.
- the trajectory obtained is adapted to this oval shape. This can for example be achieved through a coordinated horizontal movement of the lens.
- the shape of the lens may be any, the oval shape being only one example of possible shape.
- the shaft 6 can be subdivided into a vertical lower support shaft, and an articulated shaft, connected to the support shaft by a ball joint, in a manner similar to the construction of the Articulated shaft for the tool holder.
- Such an arrangement can facilitate the polishing of convex glasses by reducing the vertical movements of adaptation of the tool holder which must always be precisely on the surface of the lens.
- only the shaft supporting the lens holder is made of a vertical shaft and an articulated shaft, and the shaft supporting the tool holder is devoid of such a ball joint.
- Such a provision is not outside the scope of the invention.
- the term "vertical” is used here for the simplicity of the description, but a provision where said tree is inclined or even horizontal is not beyond the scope of the present invention.
- the fact of off-centering the tool on a path around the axis of rotation of the upper shaft prevents the accumulation of polishing dust, which are always driven from one side or the other .
- the tool is always in direct contact with the lens, and performs a optimized polishing. Indeed the accumulation of dust between the tool and the lens would reduce the quality of polishing, and can cause scratches on the lens.
- the advantage of the present invention lies in particular in that it allows polishing along paths ensuring regular polishing on the entire surface of the lens to be polished. It also allows the pressure of the tool to be adjusted to the lens at any time, thus ensuring better polishing quality, especially for soft materials such as plastics.

Description
The invention relates to the field of lens polishing.
One current system is to rest the lens on a deformable surface (foam) and to evolve the tool on the surface to be polished while rotating the lens on itself. This results in a deformation of the support of the lens according to the shape of the lens itself, which means that depending on where you are, the tool will more or less press the lens and therefore the function of polishing will be distinct from one point to another hence a deformation.
However, the polishing is not sufficiently regular, the support force of the tool on the lens is not identical in all positions.

The present invention further relates to a method of polishing optical lenses using a polishing device according to the invention, wherein said tool describes a circular sinusoid-shaped path.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, a complete revolution does not correspond to an integer number of periods of said trajectory, so that the points of contact between the tool and the lens are not identical between two consecutive turns.
According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, said lens may comprise zones with different radii of curvature so as to allow use in progressive vision glasses, and the combination of the settings makes it possible to keep the tool always perpendicular to the area of the surface to be polished.
The advantage of the present invention lies in particular in that it allows polishing along paths ensuring regular polishing on the entire surface of the lens to be polished. It also allows adjustment of the pressure of the tool on the lens at any time, thus guaranteeing a better polishing quality.

A connecting
The tool carrier is attached to an articulated
According to another embodiment of the invention, the shaft 6 can be subdivided into a vertical lower support shaft, and an articulated shaft, connected to the support shaft by a ball joint, in a manner similar to the construction of the Articulated shaft for the tool holder. Such an arrangement can facilitate the polishing of convex glasses by reducing the vertical movements of adaptation of the tool holder which must always be precisely on the surface of the lens.
According to yet another embodiment, only the shaft supporting the lens holder is made of a vertical shaft and an articulated shaft, and the shaft supporting the tool holder is devoid of such a ball joint. Such a provision is not outside the scope of the invention. The term "vertical" is used here for the simplicity of the description, but a provision where said tree is inclined or even horizontal is not beyond the scope of the present invention.
Because of the one or both patellae, several movements are combined and because of the combination of all these movements, there is a growth in the crossing of the polishing lines, hence a uniformization of the polishing and non-deformation of the lens. .
In addition, the fact of off-centering the tool on a path around the axis of rotation of the upper shaft prevents the accumulation of polishing dust, which are always driven from one side or the other . Thus the tool is always in direct contact with the lens, and performs a optimized polishing. Indeed the accumulation of dust between the tool and the lens would reduce the quality of polishing, and can cause scratches on the lens.
The advantage of the present invention lies in particular in that it allows polishing along paths ensuring regular polishing on the entire surface of the lens to be polished. It also allows the pressure of the tool to be adjusted to the lens at any time, thus ensuring better polishing quality, especially for soft materials such as plastics.
