Claims (8)

  1. Drive unit (1) for driving a vehicle which can be driven by means of electrical energy, comprising at least one electric motor (4) that drives the vehicle, at least one generator (3) that produces the electrical energy, at least one combustion engine (2) that drives the generator (3), and at least one power electronic unit (5) for actuating and/or regulating the electric motor (4),
    at least the combustion engine (2) and the power electronics unit (5) each being connected to a cooling circuit (10, 20) having its own cooling device (6, 7), the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) and the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5) being operatively interconnected by means of a connecting element (9) to form a common third cooling circuit (30), and at least the electric motor (4) being connected to one of the cooling circuits (10, 20, 30) such that the waste heat that results from the operation of the electric motor (4) and is transported via at least one of the cooling circuits (10, 20, 30) can be used to preheat the combustion engine (2),
    characterised in that
    the generator (3) is connected, together with the electric motor (4), to the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) or to the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5), and/or the generator (3) is connected, separately from the electric motor (4), to the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) or to the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5).
  2. Drive unit according to claim 1, characterised in that a valve element (8) is arranged on the connecting element (9) in order to either interrupt or enable the operative connection between the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) and the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5).
  3. Drive unit according to either claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that at least the electric motor (4) is connected to either the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) in order to substantially directly preheat the combustion engine (2), or the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5) in order to substantially indirectly preheat the combustion engine (2) via the third cooling circuit (30).
  4. Method for preheating an combustion engine (2) of a drive unit (1) for driving a vehicle that can be driven by means of electrical energy, the drive unit (1) also comprising at least one generator (3) that produces the electrical energy, and at least one power electronics unit (5) for actuating and/or controlling the electric motor (4), characterised in that
    at least the combustion engine (2) and the power electronics unit (5) are each connected to a cooling circuit (10, 20) having its own cooling devices (6, 7), the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) and the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5) being operatively interconnected by means of a connecting element (9) to form a common third cooling circuit (30), and at least the electric motor (4) is connected to one of the cooling circuits (10, 20, 30) such that the waste heat that results from the operation of the electric motor (4) is transported via at least one of the cooling circuits (10, 20, 30) and is used to preheat the combustion engine (2), the generator (3) being connected, together with the electric motor (4), to the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) or to the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5), and/or the generator (3) being connected, separately from the electric motor (4), to the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2) or to the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5).
  5. Method according to claim 4, characterised in that, when connected to the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2), the electric motor (4) heats the combustion engine (2) substantially directly via the first cooling circuit (10).
  6. Method according to claim 4, characterised in that, when connected to the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5), the electric motor (4) heats the combustion engine (2) substantially indirectly via the third cooling circuit (30).
  7. Method according to any of claims 4 to 6, characterised in that a valve element (8) arranged on the connecting element (9) is open when the electric motor (4) is only operated to cool at least the power electronics unit (5) together with the first cooling circuit (10) of the combustion engine (2).
  8. Method according to any of claims 4 to 7, characterised in that a valve element (8) arranged on the connecting element (9) is closed when the temperature of the second cooling circuit (20) of the power electronics unit (5) exceeds a defined maximum temperature level during operation of the combustion engine (2).
