Abstract

The low temperature storage of biological or pharmaceutical samples by means of ampullas in a low temperature container should be as compact and easy to handle as possible. For this purpose, cases are arranged in such a container into which boxes containing the ampullas can be placed. Each box has pins on the inside, the center distance of which is equal to the outside diameter of the ampullas and in which the minimum distance from any opposing side walls of the box is equal to the whole number multiple of the outside diameter of the ampullas.

Description

The invention relates to a device for cryogenic storage of biological or pharmaceutical samples according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such samples are stored in ampoules, which in turn are stored in well-insulating containers, the interior of which is kept at the desired low temperature by means of liquid nitrogen.

On the one hand, for economic reasons, it is desirable to accommodate the ampoules in such containers to save space. On the other hand, it must be ensured that any of the ampoules can also be removed from the storage container for further use in a simple manner.

It is known to store ampoules in grid-like inserts which are part of drawers, the drawers in turn being part of cabinet-like boxes.

In this type of storage, the ampoules are spatially separated from one another by rods or walls of the lattice-like inserts, which increases the space requirement of each ampoule.

The invention has for its object to find a compact and easy-to-use storage for the ampoules.

This object is achieved according to the invention in the generic device by the characterizing features of claim 1.

The pins arranged in each box are generally of the same length. A defined unequal length of the pins makes it possible to precisely determine the location of each ampoule with respect to the pins and thus within the box.

For the purpose of securing the contents of the box against unauthorized or unintentional opening, it may be desirable to seal the box. For this purpose, a box made, for example, of ND-PE can be sealed in that one of the pins fastened to the inside of the base plate has a longitudinal bore and that another pin is attached to the inside of the cover plate in position over this pin, which is through the longitudinal hole protrudes through the base plate, which is also drilled through at this point, so that this pin is welded to the base plate can, with the success that the upper and lower parts of the box can no longer be separated from one another without destruction.

For a compact, safe storage of the ampoules, it is also advantageous to make each of the tower-like boxes that can be inserted into the container completely open on at least two of its opposite sides, so that the length of each box to be stored on the top of the boxes can be as long as the distance of the opposite open sides of each box.

It is also advantageous if the clear distance between these ceilings of a box is not greater than the height of the boxes requires. This additionally prevents boxes which are embedded in the liquid nitrogen from floating up and thus being able to change their storage location in an uncontrolled manner.

The positional securing of the boxes and thus the ampoules is also advantageously increased in that each blanket has at least one projection which can be snapped into a recess arranged in the cover and / or base plate of the upper and lower part of a box.

This latching point can be arranged particularly favorably in a groove-like depression which extends in the interior of the box in the position of the pins.

Since the boxes with their snap-in points can only be inserted with their one side into a projection of the ceiling, it is possible to define the position of the boxes with respect to their "front" and "back" sides. This also improves the possibility of the storage location to precisely define each ampoule.

Further developments of the invention are specified in the subclaims with their further features.

An embodiment in the invention is shown in the drawing and will be described in more detail below. Show it:
  • 1 shows a systematic top view of the interior of a container containing 24 boxes,
  • 2 shows a perspective view of a box,
  • 3 shows a perspective partial view of a box according to FIG. 2 with the box partially inserted,

  • 5 shows a section along line L in Fig.3.

In FIG. 1, the inner wall of a container for storing 24 tower-like boxes is shown at 8. These boxes are stored in the container either in the gas or in the liquid phase of nitrogen. Each of the boxes 10 has a number 1, 2, 3, ... 24 on its upper side to identify the same. A strap is attached to the top of the boxes 10 to easily remove the boxes from the container to be able to lift out.

One of the boxes (No. 18) is shown in Fig.2. The box 10 has a rectangular plan area and is completely open on two sides that lie opposite one another. Ceilings 14 are arranged one above the other in the box and are provided with projections 26. Boxes 18 can be snapped into these projections. The projections 26 are equidistant from the ceiling edge 15.

The box consists of an upper part 22 and a lower part 20 (FIG. 3). A groove-like depression 32 is formed in the base plate 28 of the lower part 20 and extends almost over the entire length of the box. The box is guided along this recess 32 on the projection 26 when inserted into the box 10 on the blanket 14. In the transverse direction of the box 18, the projections 26 are arranged on the ceiling 14 at a distance from one another which corresponds to the maximum outer diameter of a box. The box 10 shown in Fig. 2 and 3 is thus designed for three boxes 18 arranged side by side. Of course, any number of boxes can be placed next to each other on the covers 14 of each box 10.

The height of the ceilings 14 corresponds to the maximum height of the box 18 in the closed state. As a result, the box maintains slight contact with the two ceilings 14 which delimit it from above and below, both when it is pushed into the box and when it is stored therein. This prevents boxes which are stored in the liquid phase of the medium cooling the container 8 are able to swim.

Pins 40, 42 (FIG. 5) are arranged in the interior of the lower part 20 of the box 18. These pins are equidistant from the side walls 24 of the lower part 20. The axial spacing of these pins is equal to the outside diameter of the ampoules 16, which are to be stored in the box 18, both from these side walls 24 and from one another. It is of course also possible to arrange several rows of pins in parallel in a box. With the help of these pins and, if necessary, the outer walls of the box, the ampoules are clearly fixed in their intended position, so that the ampoules in the box cannot slip or tip over. The pins 40 are generally of the same height. It is possible to make the pins too long. With such a defined unequal length of the pins, it is possible to precisely determine the position of a specific pin in the box and thus also the position of each ampoule in this box.

For some applications it may be desirable to protect the box against unauthorized or unintentional opening. For this purpose, a pin 46 fastened to the upper part 22 protrudes through a longitudinal bore 44 of a pin 42 fastened in the lower part 20 into the groove-like recess 32 of the base plate 28, so that the pin 46 is fastened to the underside of the base plate 28 can. It has been shown that a box made of ND-PE is well suited for the case of cryogenic storage. A box made from this material can now be sealed particularly easily by welding this pin 46 to the base plate 28 from below. As a result, the box 18 can only be broken by breaking the seal or by detaching the pin 42 from the bottom Part 20 or the pin 46 can be opened from the upper part 22.

The groove-like depression 32 (FIG. 5) has transverse walls at two points 34, 36, so that a depression 30 is formed between them, into which a projection 26 of the ceiling 14 can be snapped. One of the transverse walls ends in a flat inclination 38 in the longitudinal direction of the box 18 in the recess 32, in contrast to the wall at the point 36. This ensures that the box 18 has only one end face over the projection 26 in the ceiling 14 can be inserted. This improves the possibility of defining the position of the ampoules in the box and thus ultimately in the container 8, since the box 18 can also be identified with respect to its “front” and “back” side.
