技术领域
本发明涉及一种显示器件的背光单元,并尤其涉及一种采用发光二极管的显示器件的背光单元及其驱动方法。
背景技术
随着信息时代的进步,具有重量轻、外形薄并且低功耗特性的平板显示(FPD)器件正得到开发并通常用来替代阴极射线管(CRT)器件。通常,根据自发射能力对显示器件进行分类,并可以包括发射型显示器件和非发射型显示器件。发射型显示器件通过利用自身发光能力显示图像,而非发射型显示器件由于自身不能发光故需要光源。例如,等离子体显示(PDP)器件、场发射显示(FED)器件和电致发光显示(ELD)器件被称为发射型显示器件。另一方面,液晶显示(LCD)器件可以规类为非发射型显示器件,LCD器件以其高分辨率、显示彩色图像的能力以及高质量的图像显示而通常用于笔记本电脑和台式计算机中。
LCD器件包括用于显示图像的LCD面板和用于向LCD面板提供光的背光单元。该LCD面板包括两个彼此相对并分隔开的基板,并在其中间插入液晶材料。液晶材料的液晶分子由于其细长的形状故具有介电常数及折射率各向异性的特性。此外,在两个基板上形成两个产生电场的电极。因此,可以通过在两个电极之间施加电压来控制液晶分子的取向排列。其中LCD面板的透光率根据液晶材料的极化性质而变化。然而,由于LCD面板是非发射型显示器件,故需要附加光源。因此,在LCD面板的后面设置有背光单元。该LCD器件通过背光单元产生的光显示图像。
通常,背光单元根据其光源的配置可以分为诸如侧光型和直下型两种类型。随着LCD器件的显示区域逐渐增大,包括多个光源的直下型背光单元在用于提供高亮度方面已经得到普遍应用。
图1所示为具有根据现有技术的直下型背光单元的LCD器件的展开透视图。在图1中,LCD器件10包括LCD面板30、位于LCD面板30下方的直下型背光单元20。LCD面板30的第一和第二边缘分别设置有第一印刷电路板34a和第二印刷电路板34b。直下型背光单元20包括多个彼此分隔开的冷阴极荧光灯(CCFL)24,位于CCFL 24下方的反射器22和多个位于LCD面板30和多个CCFL 24之间的光学膜层26。
如上所述,当LCD器件10用于大尺寸电视时,在应用LCD器件的大尺寸电视中的色感辨别是非常重要的。换句话说,如何在屏幕上清晰显示一个相位是很重要的。例如,对比度是鉴别清晰相位的指示计。这里,因为通常黑色状态的亮度低于白色状态的亮度,故对比度更多的受到黑色状态的影响。因此,黑色状态的亮度越低,对比度就越高。
为了克服这个问题,可以连续监控信号条件以维持高图像对比的适应性亮度强度(AI)模式已经应用于LCD器件。更具体地,采用AI模式可以通过调节背光单元来减少黑色状态的亮度。然而,在AI模式应用于LCD器件时,在第一相位和第二相位重叠时,第一相位和与第一相位具有相似色感的第二相位间的边界是模糊的。从而,因为色感降低并且第一相位和第二相位间的边界模糊而难于区分第一相位和第二相位。换句话说,当在LCD器件上不应用AI模式时,尽管第一相位和第二相位具有相似的色感,但是第一相位和第二相位之间的界面不会模糊。
发明内容
因此,本发明提出一种应用发光二极管的液晶显示器件的背光单元及其驱动方法,其基本上可以避免由于现有技术的局限和缺点产生的一个或多个问题。
本发明的目的在于提供一种采用发光二极管的液晶显示器件的背光单元,其可以产生高的图像质量。
本发明的另一目的是提供一种可以产生高图像质量的LCD器件背光单元的驱动方法。
本发明的附加优点和特征将在后面的描述中得以阐明,部分内容将从说明书中显而易见,或者可通过实践本发明来认识它们。本发明的目的和其他优点可通过书面描述及其权利要求以及附图中具体指出的结构来实现和得到。
为了实现这些和其它优点并按照本发明的目的,作为具体和广义的描述,一种液晶显示器件包括:包含彼此相对的第一和第二基板的液晶面板、第一和第二基板间的液晶层、和背光单元,该背光单元具有邻近于液晶面板的光学膜层、邻近于光学膜层的灯以及邻近于灯的至少一组三个发光二极管。
按照本发明的另一方面,一种用于显示器件的背光单元包括:邻近于显示面板的保护膜、邻近于保护膜的第一和第二棱镜层、邻近于第一和第二棱镜层的扩散片、邻近于光学膜层的灯,以及邻近于灯的至少一组三个发光二极管。
按照本发明的再一方面,一种用于显示器件的包含发光二极管的背光单元的驱动方法包括:输出来自包括存储器和处理单元的微处理器的第一图像数据,将第一图像数据处理为第二图像数据以区分彼此重叠的两个相位;将第二图像数据转换为第三图像数据,并根据第三图像数据发出红色、绿色和蓝色光。

具体实施方式
以下将参考附图所示的实施例详细描述本发明的优选实施方式。
在图2中,LCD器件100包括LCD面板130和位于LCD面板130下方的直下型背光单元120。此外,第一和第二印刷电路板(PCB)134a和134b分别粘接于LCD面板130的第一和第二边缘。尽管未示出,LCD面板130包括第一基板、与第一基板相对的第二基板以及插入于第一和第二基板之间的液晶(LC)层。例如,第一基板具有栅线、与栅线交叉的数据线、电连接于栅线和数据线的薄膜晶体管以及电连接于薄膜晶体管的像素电极,并且第二基板具有滤色片层。通过粘接第一基板和第二基板并将液晶层设置于其中来制造LCD面板130。
背光单元120包括多个彼此分隔开的荧光灯126和多个诸如保护膜、棱镜片和扩散膜的光学膜层128。例如,荧光灯126可以包括冷阴极荧光灯。
邻近于多个用于照射LCD面板130整个表面的荧光灯126设置彼此分隔开的多组发光二极管(LED)124。每组LED包括三个独立的LED并且各独立的LED发射如红色、绿色和蓝色三种颜色光的其中一种。可以在透明绝缘基板上形成多组发光二极管124。

第一步(ST1)是输出来自包括存储器和处理单元的微处理器的第一图像信号。在输出第一图像数据步骤后可以附加的执行分析颜色信息和对第一图像数据定位的步骤。
第二步(ST2),将第一图像数据处理为第二图像数据以区别彼此重叠的两个相位。
第三步(ST3)是将第二图像数据转化为模拟型的第三图像数据。
在第四步(ST4)中,按照模拟型的第三图像数据发射红色、绿色和蓝色光。
在本发明的实施方式中,背光单元可以包括如冷阴极荧光灯的荧光灯。当通过上述步骤照射发光二极管时,LCD面板通过上述步骤的补偿可以获得预期的色感。换句话说,可以改善具有彼此相似色感的两个相位的辨别,从而改善任何时候的光学相位。
图4所示为根据本发明实施方式的LCD器件采用发光二极管的背光单元中第一相位和具有与第一相位相似色感的第二相位相互重叠状态的视图。如图4所示,当通过如图3所示的步骤驱动背光单元的发光二极管时,由于改善了第一相位和第二相位的颜色亮度,因此可以区分第一相位和与第一相位重叠并与第一相位具有相似色感的第二相位之间的边界。
可以制造根据本发明具体实施方式的诸如适应性亮度强度(AI)模式的LCD电视的LCD器件,使其具有高图像质量。更具体地,根据本发明实施方式的LCD器件包括作为背光单元发射三种颜色光的发光二极管,在两个相似相位重叠的情况下可以改善两个相位的辨别。因此,在本发明实施方式中可以获得具有高图像质量的LCD器件。本发明的背光单元可以适用于包括液晶显示器件的任何非发射型显示器件。
可以清楚地理解,对于本领域的普通技术人员来说,不脱离本发明的精神或范围的情况下可以对本发明的采用发光二极管作为液晶显示器件的背光单元及其驱动方法做各种变型和修改。因而,本发明意欲覆盖在所附权利要求以及等效物所限定的范围内的修改和变型。
Claims (20)
1、一种显示器件,包括:
显示面板;以及
背光单元,该背光单元具有邻近于显示面板的光学膜层、邻近于光学膜层的灯以及至少一组邻近于灯的三个发光二极管。
2、根据权利要求1所述的器件,其特征在于,该器件进一步包括邻近于至少一组三个发光二极管的反射器。
3、根据权利要求1所述的器件,其特征在于,所述光学膜层包括保护膜、第一和第二棱镜片以及扩散片。
4、根据权利要求3所述的器件,其特征在于,所述保护膜邻近于显示面板,第一和第二棱镜片邻近于该保护膜,并且扩散片邻近于第一和第二棱镜片。
5、根据权利要求1所述的器件,其特征在于,所述至少一组三个发光二极管中的每一个分别发射红色、绿色和蓝色光,并且所述至少一组三个发光二极管均匀地设置于显示面板的整个表面上。

邻近于第一和第二棱镜片的扩散片;
邻近于光学膜层的灯;以及
邻近于灯的至少一组三个发光二极管。
11、根据权利要求10所述的器件,其特征在于,进一步包括邻近于至少一组三个发光二极管的反射器。
12、根据权利要求10所述的器件,其特征在于,所述至少一组三个发光二极管的每一个分别发射红色、绿色和蓝色光,并且所述至少一组三个发光二极管均匀地设置于显示面板的整个表面上。
13、根据权利要求10所述的器件,其特征在于,所述灯包括冷阴极荧光灯。
14、根据权利要求10所述的器件,其特征在于,所述背光单元包括直下型背光单元。
15、根据权利要求10所述的器件,其特征在于,所述至少一组三个发光二极管形成在透明绝缘基板上。
16、一种用于显示器件的包括发光二极管的背光单元的驱动方法,包括:
输出来自包括存储器和处理单元的微处理器的第一图像数据;
将第一图像数据处理为第二图像数据以区分彼此重叠的两个相位;
将第二图像数据转换为第三图像数据;以及
根据第三图像数据发射红色、绿色和蓝色光。
17、根据权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,进一步包括在处理第一图像数据之前分析颜色信息和定位第一图像数据。
18、根据权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,所述第三数据为模拟型。
19、根据权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,所述背光单元包括灯。
20、根据权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,所述灯包括冷阴极荧光灯。
21、根据权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,所述显示器件包括液晶显示器件。
