Middelet for oppnåelse av dette er et lavlegert stål for oljebrønnrør med utmerket sulfidspenningssprekkingsmotstand inneholdende i masse%, C: 0,2 til 0,35 %, Si: 0,05 til 0,5 %, Mn: 0,05 til 1,0 %, P: 0,025 % eller mindre, S: 0,01 % eller mindre, Al: 0,005 til 0,10 %, Cr: 0,1 til 1,0 %, Mo: 0,5 til 1,0 %, Ti: 0,002 til 0,05 %, V: 0,05 til 0,3 %, B: 0,0001 til 0,005 %, N: 0,01 % eller mindre, O (oksygen): 0,01 % eller mindre, Nb: 0 til 0,1 %, Ca: 0 til 0,01 %, Mg: 0 til 0,01 % og Zr: 0 til 0,1 %, hvori halvverdibredden H og en hydrogendiffusjonskoeffisient D (10-6 cm2/s) tilfredsstiller den følgende ligning (l): 30H + D < 19,5 ligning (1)
