New methods to deliver effective education at a distance are rapidly emerging and evolving. One o... more New methods to deliver effective education at a distance are rapidly emerging and evolving. One of the most promising methods is e-learning systems (ELS). This is a pedagogical learning approach which is entirely web based and supports distributed learning. To support diverse teaching and learning paradigms, e-learning content has to be more than static online text and lacklustre PowerPoint material. It is imperative to create a dynamic interaction between e-learning content and users. Therefore, content as well as delivery, assessment and user feedback have to be supported in a highly personalised manner by ELS. In this paper the authors present a real time vision-based method for measuring learner alertness to an enhanced adaptive ELS, which ultimately supported the deployment of a novel solution for improving its architecture based on real time eye-blink measures to identify alertness and responsiveness to the e-learning materials. The proposed method uses eye-blink detection in both diagnostic and interactive regards. In a diagnostic sense, the method indicates whether the learner's attention has been caught, thus providing evidence of the learner's focus of attention upon the online materials. In an interactive respect, the method allows the measurement of eye-blink parameters to identify learner reaction time to online activities. The resulting ELS architecture delivers personalised and engaging learning content which stimulates and enhances learner responsiveness to the material presented. Furthermore, various scenarios for different application domains are explored. INTRODUCTION To promote online learning, there is a need to create more effective interaction between e-learning content and learners. However, in order to support different teaching and learning models, e-learning should incorporate more than simply reading online materials. Therefore, content as well as communication and collaboration have to be supported in a highly personalised manner by e-learning systems. Identifying the learner's inspiration and intentions with regards to online materials is very important. However, for any e-learning system to be effective, the knowledge transfer must occur in a usable, accessible, and functional manner. Eye-tracking can be used to evaluate and improve the functionalities of an e-learning system. It can dynamically capture a user's alertness and participation in such a way that determines what they are doing, how much attention they are giving to online materials, and in what order they are reading content. Detection of eye-blink behaviour and the measurement of reaction time to online activities, with a subsequent development of an algorithm that correlates these parameters with level of user attention on e-learning content, constitutes a significant challenge. This paper presents a visual intelligences method to detect user eye-blink behaviour and the reaction time to online activities in order to identify the user attention to the online materials.

Cyber security is the body of rules put in place for the protection of this cyberspace. The increasing use of e-Learning systems has been documented by numerous studies and shows continuing growth; little attention has been given to the issue of security of e-Learning systems both in research and education. In this paper, we illustrate an approach to understanding, evaluating, monitoring, measuring and managing cyber security as it relates to e-Learning systems. Security of e-Learning systems represents a unique challenge as numerous systems are accessed and managed via the Internet by thousands of users over hundreds of networks. Moreover, this paper reveals the prevalence of internal cyber-attack as well as a lack of proper IT policies and procedures in e-Learning systems, in light of their standard architecture and their specific security requirements. Also, we discuss the most important security challenges that can be relevant for distributed e-learning systems. Because e-Learning systems are open, distributed and interconnected, then security becomes an important challenge in order to ensure that interested, and authorised, actors only have access to the right information at the appropriate time.

IoE is built on the connections among people, processes, data and things. IoE are explicitly linked to global higher education (HE) and betterment to economic development, new research and innovation. Significant numbers of learning activities are moving to individualized proliferation of ebooks, e-readers, etextbooks, elearning and e-everything where transition to "hybrid" classes that combine online learning components with less-frequent on-campus, in-person class learning becomes more and more the norm. Through mass adoption of IoE is expected to witness a shift in expert resources use in HE that allows more people to gain access to education, regardless of their learning background. IoE adaptation in HE and the ubiquitous connectedness will transform the pedagogy towards one that empowers a new generation of digital citizens who understand the technologies that underpin IoE, but the impact of widespread adoption, and the right application of the information need yet to be understood. This article endeavours to discuss the evolving challenges of IoE adaptation in the HE including (1) access to right content and information and availability of materials on any device, at any time, (2) customization of curriculum to enable high/active engagement, interaction and attendance, and (3) to reduce the skills mismatch between what the labour force can do and what employers need as indicators of success for IoE adoption in HE. To transform information into processes and products is necessary to gain from the sharing and use of knowledge. We analyze how an Internet of Everything that filter, select and distinguish relevant information to tailored student need enhances performance.
