The transportation of electrical energy produced by the different kinds of power plants is one of... more The transportation of electrical energy produced by the different kinds of power plants is one of the real problems and challenges in the distribution energy field. Indeed the loss caused by the joule effect (thermal loss) can never be neglected, especially when the cables network are very long. Moreover, in desert environments where the temperature is very high during many months of the year, the loss in the electrical conductors becomes more important. As a solution, the network reinforcement using decentralized sources (the mini solar stations) is proposed to recover practically all the loss and guarantee the improvement of the system efficiency. In this paper we will present a study by simulation (using the PVsyst software) which demonstrates the direct connection of a mini solar station (peak power of 31500 Wp) to the public electricity grid which justifies the interest of this operation to improve the energy efficiency.

In this study, we will shed light on the aggressive effect of a blowing sandstorm in the presence... more In this study, we will shed light on the aggressive effect of a blowing sandstorm in the presence of high temperatures on the photovoltaic inter-module connectors in a solar station located in the desert environment of southwestern Algeria. After a short period of operation, it is observed that the MC4 connectors, which tighten the interconnection between the photovoltaic modules, are completely faulty because of sand grains carried away by a wind blowing at an average annual speed, which exceeds 6 m/s. Then, we analyzed and evaluated the connector failure to propose an appropriate solution. We checked the variations of the intrinsic temperatures of each connector employing the thermocouple for the three cases of operating temperatures, as well as the current measurement flowing through each connector, to calculate the powers dissipated in each branch of the circuit. Unfortunately, this power suffers degradation over time. The climatic factors degrading these electric generators vary from one natural environment to another. In this study, and independently of any other environmental factor, we have arrived to simulate by the accelerated tests (which was the only possible methodology) the effect of stochastic thermal cycles (exhibiting the narrow variation in daily temperature in the Sahara of Algeria) on the continuous degradation of electrical characteristics, in particular the nominal power, of a polycrystalline PV module. Modeling by Weibull model allowed us to estimate an average life of 27 years for degradation 52% about. This result comparable by what is already published in this area confirms the responsibility of the varied temperature in the form of stochastic thermal cycles in desert environments on the degradation phenomenon of PV modules.
