Particular attention was paid to theoretical analyses concerning the selection of methods for developing and obturating root canals and discussing the results of experimental studies available in the literature. These activities aimed to compare the importance of the most commonly used endodontic filling materials based on gutta-percha or polymeric polyester materials, commonly known as resilon, respectively. There are many possibilities to modify the synthesis parameters and chemical composition in order to obtain the most desirable magnetic properties and microstructure. The paper discusses an iron-based alloy with the addition of boron lanthanum and aluminium. The alloy was obtained by induction melting and casting with a melt-spinner. The main purpose of the work was to analyze the structure and properties of both the starting alloys in the form of ingots and the obtained tapes. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibration magnetometry (VSM) and microhardness measurements using the Vickers method were carried out.

The article includes research results for the functional properties achieved for a wide range of ... more The article includes research results for the functional properties achieved for a wide range of sintered tool materials, including sintered carbides, cermets and three types of Al2O3 oxide tool ceramics ((Al2O3 + ZrO2, Al2O3 + TiC and Al2O3 + SiC(w)) with (Ti,Al)N coating deposited in the cathodic arc evaporation (CAE-PVD) method and comparison with uncoated tool materials. For all coated samples, a uniform wear pattern on tool shank was observed during metallographic analysis. Based on the scanning electron microscope (SEM) metallographic analysis, it was found that the most common types of tribological defects identified in tested materials are: mechanical defects and abrasive wear of the tool side, crater formation on the tool face, cracks on the tool side, chipping on the cutting edge and built-up edge from chip fragments. Deposition of (Ti,Al)N coating on all tested substrates increases the wear resistance and also limits the exceeding of critical levels of permanent stresses....

In this study, a dual rolls equal channel extrusion (DRECE) process has been applied for improvin... more In this study, a dual rolls equal channel extrusion (DRECE) process has been applied for improving the mechanical properties of the 5754 alloy. Supplementary experiments involving metallography, electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and XRD tests were carried out to evaluate the effect of the DRECE process. XRD analysis showed that the maximum dislocation density was achieved after six DRECE passes, which were accompanied by the formation that is typical for low-strain structures. The increasing dislocation density, as well as grain refinement throughout DRECE deformation, resulted in an increase in the mechanical properties. Annealing of the as-deformed sample resulted in grain growth and strength reduction.

Sintered MMC substrate is composed of the matrix with the chemical composition corresponding to the high-speed steel, reinforced with the TiC type hard carbide phase. Functionally graded composition of MMC providing of high ductility characteristic of steel in the core zone as well as high hardness characteristic of cemented carbides in the surface zone. Internal stresses were determined with use of finite element method in ANSYS environment. The reason of undertaking the work is necessity of develop the research of internal stresses, occurring in the coating, as well as in the adhesion zone of coating and substrate, which makes it possible to draw valuable conclusions concerning engineering process of the advisable structure and chemical composition of coatings. This work presents studies of the structure and functional properties of coatings deposited onto ... more This work presents studies of the structure and functional properties of coatings deposited onto indexable inserts made of nitride and sialon tool ceramics with the required properties, i.e. high adhesion, microhardness, high resistance to abrasive and diffusion wear in working conditions of high-performance cuttings tools. In the present paper the results of the investigations of the structure, texture, mechanical and functional properties of the Ti(C,N), (Ti,Al)N, Ti(C,N)+(Ti,Al)N coatings were presented. The 80% increase in the hardness of the coatings in comparison to the substrate material was reported. Test coatings are characterized by good adhesion to the substrate. The maximum Lc load of (Ti,Al)N coat applied to the substrate from the nitride ceramics is equal to 42 N. In the studied coatings compressive stresses were found. ABSTRACT This paper presents the research results of the physical vapour deposition and chemical ... more ABSTRACT This paper presents the research results of the physical vapour deposition and chemical vapour deposition surface treatment performed on samples of heat treated cast magnesium alloy as well as the modelling of properties of the obtained coatings using the finite element method. Ti/Ti(C, N)/CrN, Ti/Ti(C, N)/(Ti, Al) N, Ti/(Ti, Si) N/(Ti, Si) N, Cr/CrN/CrN, Cr/CrN/TiN and Ti/DLC/DLC coatings were investigated. Based on fractographic investigations, it was found out that the applied coatings are characteristic of mono-, di-or multilayer structure according to the applied layer system. The individual layers are deposited uniformly and adhere tightly to the substrate and to each other. The coatings reveal a dense cross-sectional morphology as well as good adhesion to the substrate. The critical load L-C2 was measured within the range of 11-19 N, depending on the coating type. The results obtained from numerical analysis performed using a mathematical model have enabled full integration of material engineering knowledge and informatics tools.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Development of a new generation of the composite gradient tool materials with t... more ABSTRACT Purpose: Development of a new generation of the composite gradient tool materials with the core sintered withthe matrix obtained using the powder metallurgy of the chemical composition corresponding to the HS6-5-2 highspeedsteel reinforced with the WC and TiC type hard carbide phases with the growing portions of these phases inthe outward direction from the core to the surface.Design/methodology/approach: Powder Metallurgy, SEM, X-Ray Microanalysis.Findings: Powder metallurgy processes were used to fabricate the proposed gradient materials, i.e., compacting inthe closed die and sintering. The method of sequential pouring of the successive portions of the powder mixes intothe die was used to ensure a high ductility of the fabricated material core with the HS6-5-2 steel matrix reinforcedwith the hard WC and TiC carbides phases, so that portions of powder with the high percentage of the hard carbidesphases would form the outer layers of the prepreg.Practical implications: Employment of powder metallurgy for fabricating the steel based tool materials givesthe possibility to preserve properties characteristic of the traditional cemented carbides and with the high ductilitycharacteristic of steel, yet better than the traditional sintered high-speed steels obtained with the ASP method.Originality/value: Providing of high properties characteristic of cemented carbides with the high ductilitycharacteristic of steel can be mostly because of the possibility of ensuring the gradients of the chemicalcomposition and properties, cutting simultaneously fabrication costs thanks to savings made on the hard carbidephase, used in the tool surface layer only.
