To those who PM'd me about getting one of these:

After several false starts, cancelled orders, conversations with OTC Product Managers, Tech guys and Customer Service...I THINK I have three of these tools on the way to me that will be available.

I am posting this here 'cause I don't want to type the same thing over and over.

If your screen name starts with an F or an H and you PM'd me, you are in (assuming the order doesn't get cancelled again  ).

The price will be $36 plus actual shipping. I will re-post once they actually come in. Also, if I end up with an extra, I will let the board know of its availability.

I guess I can start my Wheel Bearing tool company as there is no one else making them.
I will sell them for.....$35.99 :D

A nother fine tool form Landtoy80 Indrustral Tool Corp. :flamingo:

This looks interesting. What exactly is it, and how can I use it?

Its a pulley from a chevy smod pump.
I put three long bolts for the lock nut and a single one in the middle for the torque wrench

You use it to torque the rear wheel bearing nut.

Its not the greatest but it works.

Did you have any trouble with the bolts bending, trying to set the bearings at 47 ft-lbs?

Tarbe, I think I hijacked you port ;p You may want to start a new one and block me from posting :ban:

Anyhow...
Yes. the bolt do bend. I got the bolts free. They are from the lid latch lock on 55 gal drums.
I need to get some harder grade bolts BUT I can't find any that are FREE.
I need to get the center bolt welded as it tends to slip a bit when torqueing.
THe hardest part was drilling the holes in the pulley.
Thats some hard metal.
It took many min per hole to drill them. It dulled the drill bit right off the bat. Then started to make this very loud high pitch scream. The neighbors came to what the noise was. The wife was not happy either.

D'oh

Tarbe...sorry man. Did you post about this awhile back?? I think I might have either read it and missed it or didn't understand what SST you needed.

I just lent mine out to Perk today. If your deal doesn't come through, I'll be happy to lend mine to you if you need it.

Best.

Not a problem buddy. You are a prince (not princess!!) for offering.

I hope to end up with one for myself, but if everything caves in on me, I'll be taking you up on the generous offer!

Kind of what I figured. Your creation is good, but I thought adding some small diameter pipe sleeves over the those threaded bolts leaving about 1/2" of the bolt end exposed, then running the nut down tight to the sleeve, would stiffen that setup quite a bit. It'd basically look and behave more like the actual SST does. Anyways, that's what I was thinking about doing until Onur came down with his SST, and we knocked the job out.

Never! Seeing your hometown under your name is worth putting up with you :D

In my younger days, I used to drive through (well, kinda around) Mauston on my way from Eau Claire to Montello. Born and raised, but my summer baby wife (who is from Thorp!) will never let me move back :frown: She says it is too cold in the winter

Nope. Nothing special on the front. 54mm or 2 1/8"socket. You can pick one up at Sear's for about 22 bones or there are some other cheaper sources also.

Edit: Beasty Boy... you just going to leave me out here talking to myself??

I thought you might want some pics of the real thing. The part # can be seen in one of the pictures. Tool credit: dclee.

That is an example of the original Japanese tool. I have one in my box as well. I also have the original box for mine. The current version is black oxide and is made by OTC for Toyota (in the US anyway). It carries the same number stamped into the flange along with an OTC logo.

tarbe, i have a brand new one, still in the package, sitting in my tool box, in my garage, in pearland, if needed and interested. shawn

I'm amazed they can sell them that cheap. It'd take me a couple hours in the machine shop to make one of those, not worth it. Mass quantities would still be at least an hour, and we charge $50/hour, plus materials and black oxide.

Just saw your post Shawn. Belated thanks for the kind offer!

Mine did come in. The rear bearing job was pretty easy and quick, especially compared to the fron end. I think I used one roll of towels on the rear, about 6 on the front!

Yours is brand new?? Do you still need to do yours?

I ended up getting three delivered to my house for about $40 each. Two have been sold and I am trying to figure out what to do with the last one.

bought it last nov (along with all parts/tools to do front end as well) when i got my cruiser. have yet to get a free weekend in which to do it. i know, pretty pathetic.

Are these no longer available through Toyota?
