In appearance, Gent-100® is a clear, colorless solution.

Pharmacological properties:
Gentamicin sulfate belongs to the group of aminoglycosides and is a mixture of several antibiotics produced by Micromonospora purpurea . The drug binds to the ribosome subunit of bacteria and disrupts protein synthesis, preventing the formation of a complex of transport and messenger RNA (bacteriostasis). In high concentrations, gentamicin reduces the barrier function of cytoplasmic membranes and causes the death of microorganisms. When administered intramuscularly, the drug is rapidly absorbed and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood is reached within 1 hour after administration, and the therapeutic concentration is maintained for 8-12 hours. Gentamicin is excreted from the body unchanged, mainly in the urine (which makes the use of Gent-100® highly effective for urinary tract infections) and, in small quantities, in milk. Resistance of microorganisms to the drug develops slowly, however, strains resistant to neomycin and kanamycin,

Indications for use:
Genta – 100® active against Mycoplasma spp., gram-negative aerobic bacteria – Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as against gram-positive aerobic cocci – Staphylococcus spp. (including those resistant to penicillins and other antibiotics), and some strains of Streptococcus spp. It is used for therapeutic purposes in animals with pyelonephritis, urethritis, bronchopneumonia, pleurisy, peritonitis, meningitis, sepsis, gastrointestinal infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to gentamicin. Genta-100® is one of the main means of combating severe purulent infection, especially caused by resistant gram-negative flora. Due to the wide spectrum of action, the drug is prescribed for mixed infection, as well as in cases where the pathogen is not identified.

Contraindications:
Simultaneous or sequential use of gentamicin with other oto- and nephrotoxic drugs (streptomycin, kanamycin, neomycin), as well as with vitamin C and B vitamins due to physical and chemical incompatibility is not allowed. In surgical intervention with usual local or general anesthesia, it is better to avoid the use of the drug, due to the danger of respiratory paralysis or the appearance of a disorder of excitability of the heart impulse. It is not recommended to give the drug to dairy cows and pregnant animals.

Side effects:
Long-term use of the drug can cause ototoxic and nephrotoxic effects.

Dosage and method of administration:
Genta-100® is administered intramuscularly, twice a day (the recommended interval between injections is 10-12 hours) at the rate of 1 ml of the drug per 40 kg of animal live weight, for 3 days. Animals suffering from kidney damage can be administered half the therapeutic dose.

The period of complete elimination of the drug from the body of animals:
meat – 7 days;
milk – 3 days

Restrictions on use:
Meat of animals, forcedly killed earlier than the established time, can be used for feeding carnivores or for the production of meat and bone meal. After heat treatment, milk is used only for feeding animals.
