An interview on the Academic Development of the Winners of Mathematical Olympiad

Published: 26 July 2022 Publication History

Abstract

Mathematics competitions have always been a hot spot of social concern. China's performance in the International Mathematical Olympiad is extremely excellent, but there is very little tracking research of the winners of Chinese mathematics competitions. Will the winners of the mathematics competition stay in mathematics-related majors in the future? What is their academic development? This research first briefly described some of the research frameworks and tools of the gifted student tracking research, and designed an interview on the basis of existing research to investigate the current academic development of the mathematics competition winners of China and to describe the impact of the mathematics competition experience on their academic development. The 10 participants are randomly selected from winners of Chinese Mathematical Olympiad who graduated from the same high school in 2019 and 2020. EXCEI is used to process the data obtained. Based on the data, the professional development status of the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad winners is reviewed, the conclusions of the research are summarized, and the deficiencies of the research are pointed out.
