Decoupage Bookmarks using Metal Tags

Create beautiful decoupage bookmarks using metal tags from Dollar Tree. This easy DIY project is perfect for all skill levels and adds a personal touch to your reading materials. Hello everyone! Today, I have an easy and quick craft idea to share with you that book lovers will surely appreciate. My daughters love reading books on their Kindles, but we still take regular trips to the library to check out physical copies of books they are interested in.  However, I wanted to try something new this time, so I went to the Dollar Tree store and found a pack of metal tags. Yes, you read that right - these bookmarks are made of metal, but don't worry, we can add some decorative details to make them more attractive.  Materials Metal tags (I purchased them at Dollar Tree) Acrylic paint Mod Podge Decorative napkins Paintbrush Twine Beads Inspirational stickers Scissors Applying paint to metal tags Begin by applying two coats of acrylic paint to both sides of each metal tag. Peaceful moment.

Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty.  It should be offered as a gift.”  – Kate DiCamillo This peaceful moment... The girls were ready for bed. But before we could send them off to bed, we ended the night with a story. My husband read them both a story and they giggled and wriggled. We love that they enjoy us reading to them.    May their love for books continue to grow.  ❤  Each Thursday I will be posting a peaceful moment. I would love to hear what your peaceful moment has been during the week or a peaceful memory from the past. Leave your comment below or on Google+.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar activity

Our daughter loves the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. We did a little interactive learning activity to go along with this book. This activity allowed my daughter to engage and interact with the book as we read through it. As you read through the book with your little one, your child can go through and pick out each item you read out loud. My daughter loved the caterpillar we created, and she even had him eating through each item of food. She made the munching sound and all. She's two and just loves exploring books. We worked on naming each picture, colors, and counting. She's getting so good at saying the days of the week. That's something else we worked on while doing this activity too. I just used construction paper, hole puncher, crayons, laminate, and scissors. Create and then have fun with your little one. :) Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. -Charles R. Swindol...

Learning about shapes

Today I took my daughter to the park where we had so much fun. While at the park I showed her all the different shapes on the playground. For example, the difference between the slide and the tire swing.  She really had a fun time exploring. We had so much fun exploring at the park and playing on the playground. Once we returned home I figured it would be nice to continue teaching her about shapes. So I took a book that we actually purchased at Target in the dollar section. It's called "Bee Smart" -Shapes. I took some construction paper, and cut out the shapes. My daughter and I went through the book naming each shape, and she would place the cut out shape on the right shape in the book. It was a fun and very easy learning activity that we both enjoyed. We always have so much fun learning together! :) Hope you all are having a wonderful day~

Learning together...

Today was filled with learning, laughter, dancing and painting. Todays book was- Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? By Bill Martin Jr/Eric Carle. I decided to do a fun learning activity with this book. (Color and Animal Identification) I traced and colored each animal and cut them out. I also labeled each one. As we read to our daughter we asked her if she could find each animal. Our daughter would then grab each picture and tell us the name of the animal and also the color. It was such a fun learning activity! All you need for this activity -paper -scissors -crayons/markers -book/which ever book you would like to do this activity with {Of course we had art time} :) I hope you all have enjoyed your day~

Spring time bookmarks

I was inspired by my soon to be 2 year old daughter, to create these fun spring time bookmarks I've noticed lately she has been sneaking our bookmarks out of our books when we leave them on our nightstand. My husband has even started hiding his books just to avoid losing his spot. How wonderful... Well I figured hey why not create some fun, cute, little bookmarks for my daughter. (Maybe then she will leave our bookmarks alone. (I guess we will see) Anyway here you go, here's a fun, simple craft you can enjoy doing with your little one. Materials need: 1.       Craft paper           2.       scissors 3.       glue 4.       cut out shapes of your choice 5.       crayons/markers-which ever you prefer 6.       & of course a little helper :) ...

Hello sunshine!

Today was such a lovely day. While out I couldn't resist picking up some fresh flowers, so I did! I must have Spring fever or something. :) I'm sure it had to do with the wonderful weather we had here in Colorado today. It was a nice 70 degrees. Today my daughter and I did some running around town, and enjoyed a nice lunch together. My husband made us some Chicken fajitas for dinner, and I must say it definitely hit the spot. How did you spend your day? (And how's the weather over where you are at?) Until next time, enjoy the rest of your evening. I'm currently reading: Get your sparkle on, by Lindsay Cain. (I'm hoping it helps motivate me to start beading again) Fingers crossed ;)

The Very hungry Caterpillar

I have read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle at least five times today. My daughter is in love with this book, and she loves how he turns into a beautiful butterfly in the end. What is your child's favorite book? I'm sure this is one of her favorite books; she seriously has a mini library! (And she's not even two yet, and I swear she has way more books than I did when I was her age!)
