We provide evidences that multicomponent garnet-type Ce-doped crystal GAGG (Gd$_{3}$AI$_{3}$Ga$_{3}$O$_{12}$) is a promising scintillator to be applied in harsh irradiation environments, particularly, in high-energy physics experiments and reactor research facilities, where long-term operation is mandatory. Applicability of this scintillator for the upgrade of the detectors at future accelerators with high luminosity like High luminosity LHC is considered and GAGG:Ce with different codopings is compared with Ce-doped oxyorthosilicate crystals, which are currently also strong candidates for such applications. The characteristics of a Gd$_3$Al$_2$Ga$_3$O$_{12}$ crystal scintillator doped with cerium and co-doped with magnesium and titanium have been studied, mainly in view of using it for the Phase II upgrade of the LHCb electromagnetic calorimeter. Samples of the scintillator were irradiated with $\gamma$ ($^{60}$Co) to 2 kGy and with 24 GeV protons to 900 kGy. [...]

Non-linear absorption spectroscopy in pump and probe configuration has been used to test the population of non-equilibrium carriers in Ce-doped Y$_{3}$Al$_{5}$O_${12}$ (YAG), Lu3Al5O12 (LuAG), and Gd3AlxGa(5-x)O12 (GAGG) crystals with and without codoping by Mg2+ ions. A faster rise time of the induced optical density has been observed in all crystals codoped with Mg with respect to that in Mg-free samples. [...]

One of the main challenges for detectors at future high-energy collider experiments is the high precision measurement of hadron and jet energy and momentum. One possibility to achieve this is the dual-readout technique, which allows recording simultaneously scintillation and Cherenkov light in an active medium in order to extract the electromagnetic fraction of the total shower energy on an event- by-event basis.
