Currently it renders only after getting the full bytes, but since JXL supports progressive decoding images should be able to be rendered earlier with a lower quality and then get better with more data.

Please, forgive me if it's a dumb question.
Couldn't the browser stops the download when the file reaches the shown resolution, so we could really take advantage of the progressive decoding?

That needs a spec. I think I saw a relevant suggestion somewhere but I don't remember where it was. (Such thing can probably be applied to any progressive format.)
