Peter Franchot
Peter Franchot (Democratic Party) was the Maryland Comptroller. He assumed office on January 22, 2007. He left office on January 16, 2023.
Franchot (Democratic Party) ran for election for Governor of Maryland. He lost in the Democratic primary on July 19, 2022.
Biography
Franchot received his bachelor's degree from Amherst College in 1973 and his J.D. from Northeastern University in 1978. His professional experience includes working as the legislative counsel for the Union of Concerned Scientists from 1978 to 1980 and as staff director of then-U.S. Rep. Edward Markey (D) from 1980 to 1986. He served in the United States Army.[1]
Political career
Maryland Comptroller (2007-2023)
Franchot was first elected as comptroller in 2006. He assumed office on January 22, 2007.
Maryland House of Delegates (1986-2007)
Franchot represented Montgomery County in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1986 to 2007. During this time he served on the Appropriations Committee and was Chairman of the Transportation & the Environment Subcommittee.[2]

2016 presidential endorsement

2014
Franchot ran for a third term as Maryland Comptroller in 2014. He was considering a run for Governor, but said polls showed him a much stronger candidate for re-election. He added, "At the end of the day, I enjoy being comptroller. It's a dream job."[4][5] He was uncontested in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2014, and faced William H. Campbell (Republican) and Anjali Reed Phukan (Maryland Service Party) in the general election on November 4, 2014.
