Special election
A special election for the position of New York State Assembly District 142 was held on April 24, 2018.
The seat was left vacant after the resignation of Michael Kearns (D). Kearns resigned on December 4, 2017, after he was elected as Erie County clerk.[1]
Erik Bohen (R) defeated Patrick Burke (D) in the special election. Unofficial results showed Bohen winning with 52.3 percent of the vote.[2] Bohen, a Democrat, ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.[3]

Erie County in New York held a general election for county officials on November 7, 2017. A primary election was held on September 12, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates in this election was July 13, 2017. All 11 county legislators were up for election, as well as the county clerk, sheriff, and comptroller.[4]
