For four years, I worked as a Chief of Staff to Assemblymember Brian Barnwell. From experience, I can tell you issues that everyday residents are facing; I’ve worked with non-profit organizations that are filling vital gaps in providing community resources and services. I was able to develop bonds with so many of my own neighbors while also learning about pertinent legislative issues to Western Queens and the complex relationship between City and State politics.

Most recently, I was the Executive Director for Woodside on the Move, a social service and advocacy non-profit located in Woodside. Prior to that, I served as the Northeast Regional Manager of Policy & Advocacy for the Komen Foundation, and before my time in politics, I spent nearly a decade doing non-profit work myself, including my time as a Senior Strategist Multicultural Leadership for AARP. Here in Queens, I’m a board member of Queens Pride--two organizations that have continuously worked towards sustained change and support for Queens. On the National level, I’m on the Board of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, National Urban Fellows Alumni, and the founder of Pilipino American Unity for Progress (UniPro).

Although not necessary, it is absolutely beneficial. There should be as little "learning on the job" as possible when fighting for our friends and neighbors.

Of course. Legislators must develop coalitions to help push policy proposals across the finish line. Law makers have to work together to fight for all New Yorkers.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New York

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
