Campaign website

The following is from Rarick's campaign announcement video.

I want to represent your values in the Minnesota Senate. I believe we all value protecting life at all stages, that we can fund transportation without raising the gas tax, that we should be protecting our Second Amendment rights, and that we should be funding broadband to our rural areas.

I would be proud to bring my experience as a 30-year union electrician to the Minnesota Senate. It's an experience that is different to the Republican Party than normal.

I also bring the experience of living in the district for my entire life and now on the farm that I purchased from my grandparents, that has been in my family for four generations.[12]

—Jason Rarick's 2019 campaign website[2]

Campaign advertisements

"Defend Our Values" - Rarick campaign ad, released January 16, 2019

2016

Rarick's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

2nd Amendment

  • An avid sportsman, Jason has always been a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and understands its importance. In the legislature, he authored and supported numerous pro-2nd Amendment bills. Jason is both a Member of the NRA and GOCRA (Minnesota Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance).

K-12 Education

  • Since his election to the House of Representatives, Jason has played an active role in meeting with superintendents, principals, educators, and school board members of all the schools in this legislative district. This includes a variety of roundtables and school board meetings. He believes to truly understand the issues facing our students and schools, he needs to hear from all stakeholders.

Family Values

  • Jason has been an advocate for a variety of legislative initiatives that support strong families. He also believes in protecting life from conception until natural death.

Growing Rural Minnesota's Economy

  • In his time as State Representative, Jason has worked tirelessly to support legislation that promotes job growth while lessening burdensome regulations. One such initiative that he was proud to advocate for would exempt up to $100,000 of State property taxes for every business in Minnesota.

Higher Education

  • The father of a college student, and a graduate of Dunwoody College of Technology himself, Jason understands many of the challenges in Higher Education today. That's why he supported a tuition freeze on all MnSCU campuses, including Pine Technical and Community College. With this, he also voted for a provison that would provide a $1,000 tax credit to students paying back their student loans. As a trade school grad, Jason understands their importance in our society and passionately advocates for them.[12]
—Jason Rarick[13]

2014

Rarick's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

On NLX

The proposed NLX line is yet another rail project that will be unable to sustain itself, so it will need state subsidies for as long as it exists. The jobs that come with this project are not worth the cost, and it will not benefit the area. The funding for the NLX project needs to be stopped.

On The Economy

If we are to improve the Minnesota economy, we have to ensure that we are fostering a climate that attracts and retains high paying jobs for Minnesotans. In order to have a good business climate, we need to do a few things - Make sure we have a reasonable and fair regulatory structure Reduce government spending so we can free up capital for small businesses Reduce and remove duplicative or outdated agencies that strangle entrepreneurship

In addition to these government reforms, we need to embrace opportunities like responsible mining. This not only brings additional revenue to government, it also brings jobs and opportunities for families who really need work in this economy.

On Education

Ensuring Minnesota has as much control over our education system is critical to a vibrant, healthy, and diverse economy. Minnesota parents need to ensure they have a say in what and how we are teaching our children to learn, and that starts with localizing control of our education. By returning control to our local school boards, we can make sure that parents have a say in how things are going, because local government is the most responsive. All this starts with getting Minnesota out of Common Core, and focusing on Minnesota solutions, for Minnesota families.

On Values

I am a staunch defender of family values, I want to ensure we have healthy and strong families in Minnesota. I also believe in our constitutional right to bear arms, and I will gladly vote defend the 2nd Amendment whenever possible.

On Healthcare

We all saw the problems and bugs that plagued our insurance exchange, MNSure. This health insurance exchange needs serious restructuring to ensure those that are seeking health insurance have the ‘amazon like experience’ they were told they would.

Current Issues

During our last legislative session, the legislature passed an “anti-bullying bill”. Although the name may sound like it is a good bill, it is far from that! Despite all three Superintendents in Pine County having spoken against the bill, Rep. Faust voted along party lines to pass the bill. This failure in leadership must not go unnoticed. Minnesotans in District 11B deserve a legislator that represents their values, not someone who plays partisan games with our education system. We must continue to be vocal in our opposition to this bill so that either the Senate or the Governor will stop this from becoming law![14][12]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Minnesota scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
