The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. James R. "Jim" Mann II was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Bob Heaton was unopposed in the Republican primary. Heaton defeated Mann in the general election.[5][6]

Heaton won re-election in the 2012 election for Indiana House of Representatives District 46. Heaton ran unopposed in the May 8 Republican primary and defeated James R. Mann, II (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[7][8]
2010
Heaton defeated Democratic candidate Bionca Gambill by a margin of 10,918 to 6,791. Democratic incumbent Vern Tincher did not run for re-election.[9] The general election took place on November 2, 2010.
In the May 4th primary, Heaton ran unopposed and received 3,838 votes.[10]
