Huston (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Indiana House of Representatives to represent District 37. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.

Huston was elected as speaker of the House in March 2020. He replaced former speaker Brian Bosma (R), who stepped down from the role at the end of the 2020 legislative session.[1]

Huston earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University.[2] Hutson worked as a senior vice president at The College Board, a nonprofit that creates standardized tests, from October 2012 to February 2022.[3][4] Before serving in the legislature, he served on the Hamilton Southeastern School Board and the Indiana State Board of Education.[2]

Huston's office biography said he created the 2021 Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, a "$500 million investment to promote community collaboration and growth." In 2023, the legislature approved an additional $500 million in funding. His biography also highlighted tax policy passed by the legislature, specifically a $1 billion tax reduction package in 2022 and a $430 million tax reduction in the 2023 session that the biography said would result in one of the lowest tax rates in the nation by 2027.[2]

Huston's professional experience includes serving as the senior vice president for state and district partnerships at the College Board. He has also served on the Hamilton Southeastern School Board, Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation Board, Fishers Planning Commission, and Indiana Leadership Forum Board of Directors.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Indiana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
