Chapter Text

Jonny D’Ville was not one for emotions, and definitely not for dealing with them, so when Nastya went Out, it took him a few decades to understand that she was serious.

Still, he didn’t cry, he didn’t reroute Aurora to find her, he didn’t shoot anyone. He went to the engine room, and just sat down, right next to Aurora’s heart. If he had gotten that close before, Nastya would have dragged him by the back of his shirt for risking the damage.

Nobody came for him, though, and he just sat.

“I did try to stop her.”

The voice startled him, as it always did. Aurora had barely spoken in recent years, silently missing her love. He shook off his reaction to reply.

“So did I.”

“I held her still for days. I am still the same ship, even if I have had repairs.”

Jonny had never spoken to Aurora this long without swearing, shooting her, or getting shocked by her wires.

“I know, but Nastya is… stubborn. She’ll be back, right? How is she?” He asked.

“Frozen, heading towards a moon. She will land in 26 years, if there are no other interruptions.”

“So, in 26 years, she’ll come to her senses and make us pick her up.” He rested his head against the cold metal wall. “And I’ll bring her in, kill her a couple times, and give her a hug.”

“That is agreeable.”

He fell asleep there, in the spot Nastya had deemed hers, leaning against the Aurora, and feeling the tears fall into his lap, where Nastya’s head used to lay, when things were easy, and it was just the two of them, and the doctor spent all her time locked up in her lab, and not bothering them.

He felt… warm, despite the Nastya-shaped hole in his heart, and the cold metal against his back.

he still missed his sister, though.
