Work Text:
The alarm chimed into Rio’s dreams again, for the third time, and she slammed it shut as she sat up rubbing her eyes. She turned to see Agatha’s naked body curled up against her, her hair in a tangled mess, the morning sun shining on her face. She smiled and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, and breathed in the sweet scent of Agatha’s underwater dorm room.
Agatha shifted in her half awake state, cuddling closer to Rio as she murmured, “five more minutes.” Rio chuckled as she turned to look at Agatha’s clock. Shit. It’s already nine. Her friends are probably in class and will very much wonder why Rio isn’t on time and present in her favourite class of the day.
She groaned and stumbled out of Agatha’s bedsheets, her head throbbing from the night before. “Shit shit shit shit,” she mumbled as she got herself dressed, picking up her uniform she so swiftly threw onto the ground the night before, buttoning her shirt and putting a tie on hastily.
It’s Agatha’s fault really, touching her arm so gently when she invited her to stay the night, offering her the sweet butterbeer she has brewed herself. It’s Agatha’s fault really, the way her hands slid around her waist as she kissed her, the way her hand wrapped around her neck, the way she sucked onto the skin of her chests.
Agatha Harkness touches her in ways that seem like she’s everything she ever desired, and underneath her hands she becomes artwork. And when she’s pinned between her and the mattress, she becomes a flower pressed in a book like a bookmark, on a page that says her name again and again. Dear Merlin, she’s so in love.
“Stay a little longer my love,” Agatha mumbled as she grabbed onto Rio’s wrist, willing her to stay. Rio would, missing one Herbology lesson wouldn’t do much harm, she’s way ahead of her class anyways. But since they are still trying to keep their relationship a secret, Rio really should go. Unfortunately, telling the whole school that the Hufflepuff scholar and the Slytherin’s Quidditch queen are in a relationship isn’t in their to do lists anytime soon.
She placed a gentle kiss on Agatha’s lips hurriedly, “I’m sorry love, I’m actually really late. Make sure you get to Divination on time, or Professor Calderu’s going to have your ass. I love you, see you later.”
“Rio,” Agatha whined, but Rio is already on her way out, draping herself with the invisibility cloak Alice lent her the night before. Alice is a lifesaver really, ever since the day she stumbled onto Agatha and Rio making out in an empty classroom, the Gryffindor has done her upmost all to help them with sneaking around for each other.
Rio promised herself she’d make it up to Agatha later this afternoon with all the kisses and cuddles she wants, and maybe a bouquet of flowers.
She ran down the corridor, murmuring a spell to summon her herbology textbooks, and prayed that no one would mention how herbology star student Rio Vidal would show up to the lesson ten minutes late. It’s not that Professor Davis would care.
Rio bursted into Professor Davis’ classroom, panting heavily, slamming down her textbooks onto her desk.
“Miss Vidal, it’s really not like you to be late to lessons. It is very unacceptable and I would have to take points off Hufflepuff if that happens again.”
“I’m sorry,” Rio replied, taking a seat next to Wanda as she tied her hair into a low bun, trying to catch her breath. She did the buttons she missed on her shirt, and made sure her skirt was facing the right way, trying to make herself look as presentable as possible.
She quickly opened her textbook and looked up and tried to pay attention as Professor Davis explained the conditions a gillyweed needs to grow, yet all she could think of is the many many cover stories she needs to make up when her friends bombard her with questions of her whereabouts at breakfast, as she was clearly not in her room.
Would they believe her if she said she fell asleep studying in the library? Got locked out of the Hufflepuff dorms? Taking a leisurely stroll into the forbidden forest and got lost?
Rio tapped her pen on her desk as Professor Davis rambled on about the properties of the gillyweed, but she couldn’t help but feel the stares and judgement around her. This amount of tension doesn’t normally exist in a classroom filled with Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws, and it made Rio feel very uneasy.
She turned to face Wanda, who had an amused look on her face when Rio asked, “Is there something on my face? Why is everyone staring at me?”
Wanda exploded into a series of giggles and Rio regretted asking it immediately.
“Dunno,” Wanda mused. “Just wondering whose tie you’re wearing.”
“Whose tie- What?” Rio stuttered, confusion clouding her face. “Of course I’m wearing my- shit.” She looked down and saw a loosely done, green and silver tie that she so loved on Agatha, glaring back at her.
“Oh she’s actually going to kill me this time. She threatened to do it once. Like it was hot but but oh I’m so fucked.” she rambled to herself. Agatha is going to murder her. She’s going to choke her to death for real, and not in a sexy way.
“We’re just interested,” Jen piped in from the back. “It’s obvious you stayed the night in the Slytherin dorm rooms. Who could it be? Is it Thanos? We all see the way he looks at you, but honestly you are way out of his league. Could it be an Odinson? Hela? Loki? It’s definitely not going to be Thor.”
“Shut up,” Rio murmured, embarrassment burning into her face.
“We’ll find out soon anyways,” Wanda continued. “Might as well tell us now.”
“What?” Rio responded, confused.
“We have Divination with the Slytherins next period, Rio.”
“Ah. Fuck.” Rio groaned, slamming her forehead onto the desk.
“We don’t judge, promise,” Wanda said sweetly.
“I might,” Jen said.
“Shut up Jen don’t you see I’m trying to find out the truth for all of us here?”
“I’m just saying. When I have a girlfriend as amazing as Alice, everyone just seems so mid. They’re saying she’s already being recruited to be an Auror, how cool is that?”
Rio buried her face into her hands, and wondered why the fates would let this happen to her. The lack of sleep was already giving her a bad enough headache but this, this is a million times worse.
“You can tell the truth, it’s Hela isn’t it?” Wanda was not going to give up, she’s not going to let her live down to this either.
“Ew no, I’ve known her since I was a baby,” Rio replied, scrunching up her nose.
“Alright if it is Thanos I might have to judge you a bit.”
“It’s not Thanos, Wanda. God can you let me be.”
Agatha is storming down the hallways, with her collar undone and and her long hair flowing down her back. She grabbed onto the yellow and black tie in her hand as she stomped up the stairs to her classroom.
She could not believe this. How could Rio be so fucking reckless? They’ve said to be careful, they’d tell their friends at some point, but they wanted to keep the relationship a secret just for a bit longer, to keep the world to themselves.
She slammed the door open, and everyone in the room turned to look at her. Rio looked at her, so innocently, with Agatha’s tie loosely tied around her neck and her big brown eyes blinking at her.
The entire room has gone completely quiet. She saw Wanda’s jaw dropped onto the floor in the corner of her eye. She could’ve also sworn she saw Loki passing five sickles to Hela in annoyance.
Rio sheepishly stood up from her seat and walked up to her lover, giving her a lazy grin and undid her tie as Agatha glared at her murderously.
“I- Uhm-” Rio stammered as she handed Agatha her green tie. “I’m sorry?”
Agatha raised her eyebrows. “Are you now?”
“In my defence,” Rio laughed awkwardly. “I was in a hurry.”
“I could tell,” Agatha snapped, as she hastily tied her own tie back around her neck. “You’re going to die a slow and painful death later, Rio Vidal, I promise you.”
Rio grinned, “Kinky. I’ll see you tonight then?” she suggested with a honey sweet smile on her face.
Agatha cackled out loud, “You got nerves, Vidal. You really do,” she said. “Of course you’re still thinking about sex.”
“Could you blame me?” Rio replied, rolling her eyes. “Look at yourself.”
“Fair. Fucks sake, everyone is staring at us now. This is all your fault.”
“The smile on your face betrays you. Don’t lie, you love the attention, baby.”
“I hope you die,” Agatha seethed as she pulled the slightly taller girl down to eye level with her freshly done yellow tie.
“You first sweetheart,” Rio smiled, biting her lips.
“Turn around, go back to your seat, and pay attention as if nothing happened like the star student you are.”
“So controlling,” Rio teased. “Anything else?”
“Our spot.” Agatha replied, whispering into her ear, her demanding voice sending shivers down Rio’s spine. “11pm. We’ll see what else I can do with your pretty tie.”
Rio felt a blush rise up her cheek as she choked on her own saliva.
“Alright class.” Professor Calderu interrupted, “I hope you had fun chit chatting away with all the new gossip you’re getting but we’ve got to get on with the lesson. I gotta say I definitely knew before all of you. It’s all in the crystal ball darlings, if you want to know if your crush likes you back, just get full marks in your tests and I will tell you.”
“You’re fucking Agatha Harkness? I genuinely did not see that coming,” Wanda whispered to Rio, as they flipped their books open for the page about the introduction of tarot cards.
“And you call yourself my best friend, honestly.”
“Now that I think about it, she’s definitely your type.”
“What do you even mean?” Rio replied, laughing.
“You know, loud, crazy, confident, quidditch player. Anyways, what is she like? As a, you know, girlfriend? Is that what you are? Are you guys dating?” Wanda continued, curiosity plaguing her mind.
Rio panted as she tread up the stars of the Astronomy tower, the night breeze kissing her face as she found herself facing a serenade of stars blinking at her. She smiled at the sight of her lover, with her back facing her, her hair flowing in the breeze.
She loves the Astronomy tower, though Rio isn’t overly interested in Astronomy, one thing she knows is that the stars are beautiful but she would much rather spend her life looking at the stars through the reflection of Agatha’s eyes instead. And Agatha isn’t too interested in the subject either, but she once told Rio that they were all made of stardust and she knew for sure that the stars must be so proud that they turned their atoms into something as ethereal as the existence of Rio Vidal.
“Hey gorgeous,” she said, her voice cutting through the silence of the night.
Agatha turned around, her high cheekbones and dark glossy hair shining in the moonlight, “hey lovergirl, you’re five minutes late.”
“You don’t know the wars I’ve fought to get here. Thanos is very persistent with trying to win me over. It’s flattering but honestly, he looks like- I can’t even- And I’m not one to judge a book by its cover but his personality is also-”
Agatha rolled her eyes, “Merlin’s sake, I know. Don’t worry, darling. I’ll make sure he never even looks your way again.”
“Uhm, please don’t kill him? Murder is against the school rules.”
“Blah blah blah I’m a prefect so I won’t let my girlfriend commit murder out of jealousy blah blah blah. Rest assured darling, the only one dying tonight is you.”
Rio smirked, “Are you still mad?”
“Very much so,” Agatha replied, despite the huge smile on her face, she dragged Rio down the stairs and led her to the Slytherin dorms.
