Chapter 1: short interactions
Chapter Text
Sabine Wren was just ten years old when her parents and brother were killed in a car accident. It was devastating, and Sabine was beside herself.
By some miracle, she had survived. How? According to doctors, 'sheer luck'
She had gotten out the the accident with only a few bruises on her arms and legs, while the rest of her family suffered fatal injuries.
She didn't understand how, and for a few years, she wished she had died too. After going in and out of awful foster homes, life was chaos for her. But when she turned 13, she was sent to a couple, Hera and Kanan. They were new to fostering, and only had one other kid under their care, along with a 1 year old who was their only biological child.
Sabine appreciated the peace and quiet, especially since she was expected to help with the baby. But then there was another child sent to their house, aka Ezra.
At first, Sabine didn't like him. He was practically obsessed with her for the first few weeks, and never left her alone. But they became close, and loved spending time together.
Shin Hati didn't fully remember her biological parents. She had been adopted by Baylan Skoll when she was just 5 years old. Her parents had died in a plane crash, and had previously put Baylan as her God-father, so he adopted her. He didn't change her last name, since she was already old enough to know it. But it didn't feel weird. She didn't remember her biological parents, but didn't care much. She was so little, she'd barely understood what was going on at the time. Plus, they were never around much anyways, so it didn't change much.
Now, she was entering her junior year of highschool, and she could only pray that it would turn out fine.
Sabine hated highschool. She had come out as a lesbian her junior year, and everyone around her treated her like shit. Especially Betsy and her friends.
Betsy was the head cheerleader, and pretty popular. Was it pretty stereotypical for the gay girl to get bullied by all the popular girls? Absolutely.
But it didn't stop them.
Out of everyone in that group, she hated Shin Hati the most. Shin was best friends with Ezra, who was in the same grade as Shin. But she always just sat back and watched as her friends tormented Sabine. Shin was a confusing woman. She didn't speak much around everyone (except Ezra), and she was just overall strange.
But hell, was she pretty.
No, gorgeous.
Shin Hati was probably the most beautiful girl she'd ever met, but she'd never dare tell anyone. That was a secret that could ruin her life. And the last thing she needed was yet another reason for the girls at school to bully her.
When Sabine went to her new homeroom on the first day of school, she found that Shin was there. Not only that, but she was assigned to sit next to her on the fucking seating chart.
Damn those seating charts.
It was like the teachers decided to look into all the school gossip and pick the worst pairs of people to sit next to each other.
But this time, instead of being glared at or having slurs thrown at her, Shin blushed when Sabine sat next to her.
Sabine blushed in turn, noticing it.
Later that day, during art, Sabine noticed Shin having a hard time opening a bottle of paint.
She walked up to her and leaned on the counter.
"Need help with that?" Sabine asked.
Shin blushed again, and Sabine thought she was going to fall into her beautiful, bright eyes.
"Uh, sure. Thanks" Shin said as she handed the bottle to Sabine.
Their fingers brushed up against each other's as Shin passed the bottle to Sabine, and Sabine swore she felt a tiny bolt of electricity run through her hand.
It was a feeling she could get used too. A feeling she wanted more of.
A few weeks later, Shin was stayed over at her house.
To be fair, Shin was there for Ezra, not her. Plus, she'd only sleep over when her father went on business trips overnight. But she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with joy when the blonde girl walked in.
And then, God answered her gay prayers.
"Sabine, Shin has to sleep in your room. Ezra isn't allowed to have girls sleep in his room at night" Hera said.
fucking score!
"Okay" Sabine replied, faking disappointment as well as she could. She couldn't let anyone get suspicious.
When Shin walked into the bedroom, it was about 2am. She and Ezra had spent as much time talking as possible.
"Sorry if I woke you up" Shin said as she set her sleeping bag on the floor.
"Nah, it's fine. I was up anyways" Sabine said.
"You can have my bed if you want" Sabine offered, standing up. She knew she didn't have a chance with her, but she may as well try.
"I bet you'd love that" Shin said.
Well, so much for trying to be nice.
"...I-I'm sorry, I-I didn't mean it in that way. I'm not thinking straight" Shin apologized quickly, fidgeting with her fingers.
Just take out the word 'thinking', and you're right about there-
"It's fine. I'm used to it anyways" Sabine replied.
Shin frowned.
"I'm sorry about my friends behavior" She said, walking closer.
Oh?
"It's okay, really. I'm a senior, I only have to put up with one more year"
"You shouldn't have too though. They shouldn't treat you like that" Shin said, walking closer.
shit shit shit, just kiss me already-
"You-...think that?" Sabine asked.
Shin went quiet for a moment before nodding.
"...w-well thanks, I-I guess" Sabine said.
They stood in silence for a moment, leaving Sabine with her thoughts.
She wanted Shin. So badly.
She wanted to kiss her, to hold her hand, to buy her flowers, to watch movies together, all the sappy, romantic things.
But she knew she'd never get that.
"You can still take my bed, y'know? It's just for the night, and it's much more comfortable than the floor" Sabine said.
"Are you sure?"
"Wouldn't be asking if I wasn't"
Shin looked hesitant, but sighed.
"O-Okay. F-Feel free to use my sleeping bag. A-And take anything you want off the bed"
The next morning, Sabine woke up early.
The floor was extremely annoying.
But, it was a small price to pay. Especially getting to see Shin, asleep in her bed.
She looked so beautiful curled up underneath her comforters.
Sabine would've taken a picture if it wasn't so creepy to do so.
But alas, she couldn't just pause time.
And she couldn't stare forever either.
Last thing she needed was Shin going around saying she caught the school lesbian staring at her while she slept.
Chapter 2: author's note
Chapter Text
As some of you may know, donald trump has won the presidential election in the US.
As an American citizen, and a queer woman, I am currently devastated at this outcome.
I am truly disgusted with the people of my country, and my heart is broken for those who will now suffer because of white men's choices.
I am actively going through a lot right now, fearing for my rights, and the rights of my closest friends. Along with my school being threatened, and having a lot going on with my mental health.
Updates may be slow, and I apologize for that. I will probably have another chapter soon, since writing helps me cope with things like this, but chapters may not be very long. I apologize for that as well, but hope you understand.
There should be a second chapter soon, maybe even tonight. But for now, here's this.
Thank you for understanding, have a good day/night.
Chapter 3: you'll have to convince me
Notes:
Yeah, this was meant to be slow burn, but I thought this would be interesting LMAO.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Shin hated school dances. She also hated parties.
But she went anyways, because Sabine Wren and her friend group went.
Watching Sabine dance so carefreely while being bullied relentlessly by the entire school pulled her in, but she didn’t know why.
It made her wish she could be like that.
And as she slept in Sabine’s bed that night, she watched as Sabine laid in her sleeping bag.
God, she was gorgeous-
Huh???
Shin blushed and turned away, covering her face in the blanket.
But suddenly, she was surrounded by the smell of Sabine.
It was a mix of some perfume, and something that was just Sabine.
She breathed in through her nose, letting the air comfort her.
She could stay there forever, and not complain.
It made her wonder how it would feel to be in her arms, to be held by Sabine Wren.
She wondered how her hair felt, and how it would feel to run her fingers through it.
She peeked out of the blanket again, and looked at Sabine, who was still asleep, her short purple hair mussed from the pillow.
She was so pretty…
The next morning, Shin had to leave quickly.
She had said it was because she was busy, but mainly, it was that she couldn’t stand being around Sabine much longer.
She just couldn’t deal with her mind anymore.
Normally, she’d only have these thoughts about Sabine when she was around her, but now, even laying in her own bed, she couldn't stop thinking about her.
Sabine was very attractive. Shin had to admit that.
Not only that, but she was kind to her. Even though Shin's friends treated her like crap, Sabine never did anything harmful to Shin.
She'd offered her her bed for God's sake.
But she knew she couldn't just go off of that. Right?
The next day was a huge football game at the school. Shin and her friend group were preparing for her cheer routine, when she saw Sabine sitting on the bleachers. Not even with Ezra.
Shin was a little surprised. She had never seen Sabine attend a game before. Maybe Ezra made her go? Ezra would always go to support Shin, so maybe he dragged her over, and he was just in the bathroom at the moment.
But as the night went on, Shin never saw Ezra. Sabine was willingly there, by herself.
During the routine, she noticed Sabine staring at her. Not the group, her.
She was almost immediately distracted by it, and ended up falling over.
Shin swore she saw Sabine smile for a second.
When the game started up again, Shin noticed Sabine go behind the bleachers. So against her better judgement, she followed her.
"Sabine!" She called out as she walked after her.
Sabine was wearing a leather jacket and dark jeans, along with a white tank top.
Damn this-
"Yeah?"
"I-...I didn't realize you enjoyed highschool football" Shin said.
"I don't" Sabine replied as she leaned back against the wall and pulled a box of cigarettes from her pocket.
Shin walked over and tried to snatch the box away.
"Are you fucking crazy?? You could get in serious trouble if you get caught" Shin said. But Sabine already had a cigarette between her lips.
Fucking bit-
"So? Who cares. My parents won't care" Sabine said.
Shin was silent as she stood in front of Sabine.
"There are much better things to do with your lips than smoking at your age" Shin said as she yanked the cigarette from Sabine's lips and tossing it away.
"Oh really? Like what?" Sabine asked.
Shin knew in that moment she had chosen the wrong words.
Especially when Sabine moved forward and pinned Shin up against the wall.
"If there really are better things, you'll have to convince me, princess" Sabine whispered.
Shin was in complete shock, especially when Sabine pressed a soft kiss to her cheek and walked away, leaving Shin a flushed mess.
What the actual fuck just happened-
Notes:
