Work Text:

Murata and Zenitsu existed Sanemi’s office looking like they just saw the most horrific thing of their life.

“I don’t think I can handle another math test.” Zenitsu groaned.

Murata nodded meekly. He opened his locker to get his bento. “Same here. I’m just hungry, man. The bell for lunch will ring soon.”

Zenitsu trudged to his locker beside Murata’s to get his bento too. The bell went off and kids were already filing into the hallways and heading where they needed to for their break.

“I’m going to head to the cafeteria with Tanjiro and Inosuke. Want to join us?” Zenitsu asked Murata. The boy nodded.

The two were about to head out, when somebody raced past them, accidentally bumping into Murata.

“Oh! Sorry!” Murata apologized, but the person didn’t stop and ran into Sanemi’s office, leaving the door slightly ajar.

“Genya?!” both boys exclaimed in unison.

“Why’s he rushing?” Zenitsu asked worriedly. “It’s not like him to run that fast in the halls.”

Murata peered over to the door, concerned as well. “Maybe something happened…?”

Zenitsu gulped. He hoped Genya was alright.

Both boys slunk beside the doorway so that Sanemi or Genya couldn’t see them through the window. And what they saw was baffling.

Genya appeared to be hyperventilating, and when Sanrmi noticed, he instantly got up from grading papers to assess the situation.

“Aniki… aniki, I’m sorry, I… I… left my inh-haler at… home….” Genya puffed out, clutching his chest.

“Okay, okay Gen, don’t worry I got you.” Sanemi said in such a soft and caring voice, absolutely NOTHING like the cruel, evil and downright psychotic math teacher he was.

Murata and Zenitsu gaped.

Sanemi sat Genya down and rummaged through his backpack underneath his desk. He pulled out a spare inhaler and gave it to his brother.

Genya took it and breathed in while Sanemi sat beside him, rubbing his back gently.

“There we go, deep breaths Genya, deep breaths…” Sanemi breathed along with him until his breathing gradually went back to normal.

“Thank you, ‘Nemi…” Genya whispered, handing him the inhaler. Sanemi shook his head. “You keep it until we get home, okay? Just make sure not to forget it again.”

“I won’t. I’m sorry, ‘Nemi.”

“It’s okay baby.” Sanemi smiled and ruffled Genya’s hair. “You wanna go back for lunch now?”

Genya bit his lip nervously. “Actually… can I stay here with you? I don’t feel like going out right now…”

“Of course. I have a free period after lunch before my next one. I can let your next teacher know if you don’t feel like attending next period.”

Genya smiled in relief. “Thank you, aniki.”

“No problem.”

Sanemi dragged another chair from the corner and placed it beside where Genya was sitting. Genya laid his head on Sanemi’s shoulder and closed his eyes and he continued to grade more math homework. Sanemi sighed and kissed his little brother’s head.

“Not gonna eat?”

“Mm. Not hungry. Just tired.”

Sanemi chuckled. “Nap all you want.”

Zenitsu and Murata wanted to burst out yelling “AWWWWWW ♡” at the adorable sight laid before them, but obviously they didn’t want to get caught.

They both quickly scurried their way from the office and headed towards the cafeteria.

“Shinazugawa-sensei has a HEART?!?!” Zenitsu finally exclaimed. “Why can’t he show it us??!?!”

“Beats me!” Murata groaned. “Although Genya-kun is his brother. But it’s hard to see Shinazugawa-sensei… well…. BEING NICE.”

They both walked in silence for a while. Until…

“This could break the whole school.” Zenitsu murmured.

“Should we?”

“….”

“….”

“No. Let’s protect Genya-kun’s privacy.”

“Yeah. And I don’t want to be killed by Shinazugawa-sensei.”

“Completely agree with you on that.”
