Chapter Text

She turned, not elegantly thanks to the pregame and jungle juice, to face the voice. Lucy didn’t know who this guy in front of her was. Was he wearing a bed sheet?

“Mm, what’re you dressed as?” She mumbled.

He stepped closer and leaned on the railing next to her, copying her prior pose. He didn’t look at her as he spoke, choosing instead to look at the unkempt backyard of the frat house. Kind of rude, but whatever, she  turned around and returned to her original position, now leaning on the railing once more.

“I’m Poseidon, duh.” He sounded offended as he gestured to his costume which was a poorly tied bed sheet, apparently a toga, and a golden trident earring that dangled from his left ear.

She couldn’t help the laugh that escaped her drunken lips. Maybe now she was the one being rude but, seriously, what guy got so offended about his costume? She didn’t notice the way the corner of his lip ticked upwards or the way his eyes softened as she laughed.

“Yeah, okay, and what’re you supposed to be? A disco ball?” He questioned.

Maybe she should be annoyed but he had asked with a blend of sass that was more humorous than insulting. She turned to tell him that she was very obviously a fairy and if he couldn’t see that past all the body glitter then maybe he wasn’t observant enough to be the god of the sea, but he was gone. She shrugged it off. Who cares if one cute boy left mid conversation, she was at a party, and she promised Tara she would have a blast. After taking a steadying breath, she pushed herself off the railing and made her way back inside. As luck would have it, Tara was right there when she opened the door! Yay, Tara had gotten her text from earlier after all. She grabbed the extra cup of jungle juice from Tara’s hand and laced her fingers through Tara’s, they were headed right into the heart of the party together.

Okay, maybe Halloweekend was going to be a blast. Her and Tara were in the middle of the crowd, dancing and singing to the music, as the bass vibrated their bodies. She lost track of how much she had drank but she knew for sure this was going to be a fantastic night.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

She woke up in Tara’s bed, still in her clothes from the party, and with her head pounding louder than the music was last night. She heard a groan. Okay, she was the one that groaned. She felt like shit and it was simply too early for this. Also, she was in Tara’s bed, but she didn’t know where Tara was. That’s when a ray of light, that had the strength of a thousand suns, hit her right in the eyes and she groaned from discomfort again. Thankfully it was Tara and she had brought goodies. The goodies were excedrin, Powerade, and the greasiest breakfast sandwich campus had to offer and they all tasted like a godsend.

Apparently Tara was secretly a master partier. It seemed she knew how to drink as much as she wanted and could cure a hangover with ease. Thirty minutes after consuming all three of the goodies Lucy was feeling much better. She couldn’t remember most of last night, Tara told her this was called blacking out, so she listened to Tara’s recap of the night. Tara told her that they had gotten separated but after finding her on the porch, alone, they had stuck together for the rest of the night. It seemed like she had a good time but she would definitely be drinking less tonight. That was if she even had the strength to make it out tonight. The discomfort of the hangover was definitely gone but there was a nagging fatigue that was weighing her down.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Tara made her keep her promise. Tara also reminded her how “important” Halloweekend was. Whatever, she could get over a little sleepiness. Besides, if she didn’t go out, all of her hard work to get ahead on her schoolwork would have been for nothing. So, she found herself once more, pregaming with Tara. She sipped on a sugar free energy drink for most of the night so that she could keep her energy up. Tara had decided that tonight they were going to be vampires. Really that just meant they were wearing black clothes, fangs, and lots of fake blood. She could definitely see the appeal of the costume. She found herself checking herself out in different reflective surfaces, occasionally flashing her fangs to herself.

Since tonight was Saturday, Tara had decided that they needed to go to a nicer bar in the city. She didn’t care either way but was grateful that since she would have to pay for drinks at a bar she would definitely drink less tonight. Tara had a different mindset- since they were going to a bar she decided they needed to drink more at the pregame. She could work with this.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

She wasn’t drunk when they arrived at the bar, Tara had listened to her when she said that personally she didn’t want to drink as much since she wanted to be able to remember the night, but she was definitely quite tipsy. It was a good amount of tipsy. She could still be aware of everything happening around her but she felt extra giggly and even sort of floaty. To her, it was the perfect level of drunk to be when entering the bar.

The bar was really nice. There were two levels for it and each level had its own DJ. It was rather packed but that was to be expected. There were multicolored lights flashing on the two floors that added to the ambiance. It really made her want to dance. This time she led the way by gripping Tara’s wrist, she didn’t want to lose her friend to the crowd, and took her to the outskirts of the dance floor.

After a while, she could feel herself sobering up. She was becoming too aware of how packed the bar was. She decided another drink would be perfect right now. She told Tara that she was going to make her way to the bar and denied Tara’s request to come with her. She could handle getting a drink on her own.

She made her way to the bar but found herself unable to actually get to the bar. There was a wall of people surrounding the bar and she couldn’t get through. It’s not like she wasn’t trying to, she was asking politely and even trying to just push through, but she couldn’t make it.
“Oh sweetie, do you need my help buying a drink again?” The vaguely familiar voice rumbled behind her.
