Chapter Text
Ten years later
“Keep running, we’re almost there!”
“What do you think I’m doing?!”
Tamsin and Bo were running for several minutes now, with a sizable tribe of kobolds hot on their heels. The city sewers seemed to be never-ending, an underground network of turns and crossings where anyone could easily get lost. Thankfully they had thought about marking their way back to the surface on the walls, and after running through a long, dimly-lit tunnel, they finally noticed the hatch at the end of it, the one they had previously used to get in. The angry hisses behind them were getting louder, and both of them slammed into the heavy door to force it open.
“Push!”
“I am! This fucking thing is stuck!” Tamsin yelled back with her body against the hatch, putting all her strength into it.
“Push harder!”
The hatch finally moved and they hurried through it just in time. At least a dozen furious kobolds were running straight at them when Tamsin slammed the door in front of them and secured it with a latch.
With hands on their knees, they were panting with exhaustion, until Tamsin straightened and looked with satisfaction at the door separating them from the fuming little creatures which were ready to have them as their meal.
“Phew,” she sighed, “that was close,” she commented with a smirk, and Bo sent her a glare.
“Wouldn’t be, if someone didn’t barge into their lair without checking it out first!”
“Got the job done, didn’t I? We got what we came for.” Tamsin pulled out of her pocket a golden necklace with a beautiful emerald, which shimmered even in the poor light of an underground passage.
“Not everything,” Bo hissed. “The bracelet?”
Tamsin shrugged. “Didn’t see any, so tough luck.”
“We could have parlayed first or something,” Bo accused, wiping needlessly the dirt off the clothes, which was sticking everywhere.
“With kobolds?” Tamsin raised an eyebrow with amusement. “Don’t be absurd, love. Besides, they stole it first, we were just getting it back to our client.”
Bo rolled her eyes, huffing a little. “You’re unbelievable.”
Tamsin scrunched up her nose, smiling. “I know.” She reached for Bo’s waist, but she dodged her hands, giving her a pointed look.
“You’re filthy, I’m not touching you.”
“As if you looked any better, princess.”
Bo looked down at her wet shoes, grimy pants, and stained shirt. “Ugh, don’t even mention the smell,” she complained, making a face.
“Good thing that we have a nice, huge bath which we can share,” Tamsin noted with a sly smile. “Told you that was a good investment.”
They were climbing the stairs leading to an abandoned parking lot, which was their exit from the underground tunnels.
“You have your moments. Sometimes.”
“Just sometimes?” Tamsin sneered, but held the door for Bo as they finally reached the surface and fresh air, which they welcomed with a delighted sigh. “And who suggested finding kobolds in the first place? Or last month when we were looking for that werewolf? Or remember that old woman who turned out-”
“Okay!” The brunette laughed, “Fine. You are a very good partner, detective.” Her lips curled in a smile. “Most of the time.”
They had to cross the ruined garage to reach the surface level. The only remnants of civilization left were the vehicles, or rather scraps of metal which used to be cars. The sunlight was shining through the collapsed ceiling above them, which felt especially nice after the time spent in the sewers.
As they were walking through the parking lot, Tamsin stole a glance in Bo’s direction. “So… you still like me?” She half-seriously asked, filling the silence, and Bo sent her a deadpan look.
“Tamsin.”
“What?”
“We’re married.”
“Just checking, you could’ve changed your mind,” Tamsin replied with a shrug, and Bo grabbed her arms to turn her around so they were face to face.
“About you? Not a chance,” she stated, all serious yet so attractive at the same time that Tamsin had to take a breath and crack a joke.
“Got your hands on me after all.”
Bo rolled her eyes before she quipped back, “Now, you don’t have to put so much effort, there is a hundred percent chance you will get lucky tonight.” She smirked and turned on her heel to resume walking.
“Me?” Tamsin’s eyebrows raised in doubt. “I’m sorry, who will be the one feeding here?”
“Don’t say it like you don’t enjoy it too.”
In less than an hour they were back in Bo’s - their - apartment, getting out of dirty clothes and filling the tub with hot water. For a longer while they sat in silence, first washing each other’s hair, then gently rubbing each other’s body, hands moving along soaped skin until they were clean and content.
“I feel so tired, even though we didn’t even fight,” Bo sighed as she settled between Tamsin’s legs to lean back against her.
“We should treat ourselves with some long due vacations,” Tamsin suggested, sneaking in between kisses along Bo’s neck and shoulders. “Kenzi will be so pissed, we haven’t visited her for a while now.”
“I know, but things have been hectic lately. Between our PI work and helping Dyson with the bar as he has his hands full with a newborn… there is hardly any time for us to take a break.”
“I do not like you taking shifts in the Dal.” Her voice came out sulky as her fingers moved up and down Bo’s side.
“Why? You’re doing this as well.”
“I don’t have the entire bar staring at me and tipping like crazy. Bunch of horny creeps.”
Bo shifted in her arms to look at her with an amused smile on her lips. “You know that you’re my only regular.”
“I fucking hope so,” Tamsin breathed out and then kissed her, just because she could. “That would be a bit greedy of you to feed from others, and quite humiliating for me. What would everyone say if I couldn’t satisfy your needs, hm?” She slowly dragged her lips across Bo’s jawline, enjoying her shiver under her touch.
“I can assure you, you satisfy me more than enough,” Bo replied shakily, her fingers sinking into Tamsin’s thighs in anticipation. “Wouldn’t mind if you prove it again, though.”
Tamsin chuckled at her suggestion. “I’m always up for a challenge.”
She planted more kisses along her neck while underwater her fingers were sliding towards Bo’s center in a sluggish, teasing manner. The brunette arched her back, leaning her head against Tamsin’s shoulder with a happy sigh. Tamsin’s mind was already in the gutter when Bo suddenly grunted.
“Huh, I just realized something.”
“Exactly when I have my hand between your legs?”
“It’s our anniversary, kind of. Around that time, ten years ago, we got together.”
Remembering the exact day, Tamsin frowned. “Damn, it’s been that long already? Feels like it was just yesterday I was moping around, thinking you hated me.”
“How the time flies. I definitely prefer now to have you naked against me if we’re sharing a bath.” Bo turned her head a little, glancing playfully at Tamsin who scoffed, but smiled at the memory still.
“Well, we should definitely celebrate that. Just a week off… me, you, some cabin hidden from the world?” Tamsin innocently hinted, caressing the inside of her lover’s thighs.
“Like that time we went to Iceland because you wanted to show me the northern lights?”
“Exactly.”
“Then we would stay inside and have sex all the time.”
Tamsin tilted her head with a furrowed brow. “What’s wrong with that?” She asked, and Bo laughed against her before shifting in a way that made Tamsin’s mind go blank for a moment.
“We can do that everywhere, anytime.”
“Keep talking.”
“My point is, we should go somewhere to see and experience things. You promised to take me to that fae part of Japan,” Bo pouted adorably, and Tamsin reached for her face to hold it between her hands.
“I did, and I will. Whenever you want. We have all the time in the world.”
Tamsin stared into Bo's eyes and for a moment everything stopped. She could hardly remember the darkest days, the loneliest nights, the pain tugging at her heart and the misery. But when she did, she thought that it was all worth it in the end, solely for those little moments between them. There she was, sitting in the tub with her soulmate to whom she was married, and their biggest struggle was workload. No dark forces threatening the world, no fate-altering events, no fighting for their lives anymore. The future she had never dreamed of.
It was just them, in their apartment, doing mundane things. And Tamsin was perfectly content with that, especially when Bo was kissing her like the world was about to end. It could, and that would have been a good death.
“So… Am I getting lucky tonight or not?”
