Chapter Text
1. Video
Reborn got a CD of Terumi’s past competition from her coach. He decided to watch it that night.
Terumi in the first video wasn’t older than 11. The girl was wearing a cute, mid-calf peach dress. She wore frilly socks, her golden dancing shoes glittering in the light. Hibari, looking a bit older than Terumi, was wearing a white dress shirt, formal pants, a tie and leather shoes. Both of them wore their hair back, revealing their full face.
From the first video, Reborn could tell that they had a lot of potential. Hibari had shown his dominance since he was so little, no wonder he could lead her so well. His every move was smooth even when they were close to others. Terumi also followed him every step as if she was able to read his mind. Reborn thought it was due to hyper intuition. She must be focusing on her partner’s moves since the first day. Although Hibari barely smiled, Terumi’s wide smile was enough for both of them.
In the video, they got the bronze medal, rather impressive for their first time.
Few videos later, Hibari seemed to be nearly graduating from elementary school. He still didn’t wear the long tail suit. Terumi looked taller. Her dress was white with some iris purple color here and there. The dress was longer than ones in the first few competitions. Some deep purple flowers were on her hair bun. Her white shoes still weren't high heels and still needed socks to wear with them. Both of their gestures were stronger. They easily won the competition this time.
Reborn kept watching till the last video. It was the latest competition before he came here. The seemingly 14-year-old Hibari wore a long tail suit. He couldn’t deny that it suited Hibari more than just a white dress shirt. Terumi’s hair, this time, was designed into a complex hairstyle, black accessories on her head. Her dress was bright yellow, black fur dancing along at the edge of her skirt while moving. Her shoes had changed into black high heels, small crystals on them shining under the spotlight.
Hibari smiled more often, but it was still difficult to recognize, while Terumi’s smile shined bright. Their dance moves were far more complex than before due to their higher level. Though, it seemed like it was nothing to Hibari who could do anything. Terumi wasn’t far behind, developing her skills and following him with no problem.
Again, they won this competition.
Reborn smirked, feeling excited for what they could do in the next competition.
Oops, he almost forgot to send a copy to the Ninth and Iemitsu. The latter would be so shocked and he couldn’t wait to get those reactions out of him.
2. Outfit
One evening of the practicing day, Terumi walked into the studio, looking so exhausted, Reborn sitting on her shoulder. Kyoya looked at her when he heard the door open.
“Still can’t choose your outfit?” He asked. Terumi shook her head. “Think about something around you, maybe you will get some good ideas.”
“If it’s as easy as you say, I won’t be stuck like this.” Terumi said, “There’s nothing interesting enough.”
“How about this?” Reborn asked, offering her a sheet of paper.
Terumi accepted it, feeling curious, before widened her eyes.
“My god! This could work!”
In the next competition, Terumi stepped onto the floor in off-white dress, the chest and shoulder part was decorated in orange. The edge of her skirt was orange fading to white like the top part. With frilly cloth around her and her sweet smile, Terumi somewhat looked like a fairy.
Reborn smirked while recording, Iemitsu must be fainting again for sure.
3. Do you guys really need to be here?
After hearing their number in the semi-final round, Kyoya took Terumi's hand and walked onto the floor. She turned and spreaded her arms wide, greeting the audience, before her eyes widened.
Reborn was standing on Yamamoto’s shoulder with a camera in his hands. Gokudera waved enthusiastically and fainted when he saw Bianchi. Kyoko, Hana and Haru smiled at her. Sasagawa-sempai constantly stopped himself from shouting to loud. Chrome came with Joshima and Kakimoto, three of them were a bit far away from other people.
Terumi smirked, but Kyoya started to get annoyed. He brought her to one side of the floor, ignoring all of their friends.
She sighed quietly, smiling at him.
“First dance, waltz.”
“You guys are great!” Yamamoto smiled, “It’s like you are flying around the field.”
“It’s the FLOOR, you idiot.” Gokudera yelled. He then turned to bow to Terumi, “Sorry, Tenth. I fainted because of Aneki. I’m so disappointed I didn’t watch your dance.”
“That’s alright, Gokudera-kun. I passed the semi-final round. You can still watch the presentation and the final round.”
Others were gathering around them, enjoying talking to each other. Then, Terumi went to Kyoya who had already left and went to the dressing room. She found him eating a banana.
“It’s great we got into the final round,” Terumi sighed. She accepted a banana from her partner. “I was so nervous when I saw them among the audience.”
“Annoying herbivores,” Kyoya gritted his teeth. “The baby should just come alone.”
“C’mon, you know watching the dance is much greater when the dancers are right in front of us.”
“Still annoying.”
“No matter how much you feel annoyed, after the final we still need to take some pics with them.”
Both of them turned to the voice, seeing Reborn in the long tail suit. His fedora was nowhere to be seen.
“You are here. Are you sure the others won’t cause a ruckus?...” Terumi worried. Most of her friends were quite a bit… chaotic.
“Don’t worry. They’re old enough to take care of themselves. If they make you angry, then let them beg for your forgiveness.” Reborn shrugged, implying he didn’t care. “Wish you luck for the next round, the Ninth also sends his support from Italy.”
“Tell him I say thanks, then.”
“He said he wanted a gold medal and a picture with your family in return.” The corner of Reborn’s mouth lifted a bit. “Don’t let him down.”
“Absolutely not.” Terumi stood up, putting her hand down into Kyoya’s hand. “Every time Kyoya brings me to the floor, we are aiming for the top spot.”
“Give it your all, dance with your dying will.”
Terumi smiled at her tutor, stepping outside the room with Kyoya.
“Those two are amazing, don’t you think?” Yamamoto said during the final round. “How can they move like that?”
“Terumi has been training since she was eight. It has been approximately five years.” Reborn kept recording Hibari and Terumi on the floor.
“I’ve never known,” Yamamoto rested his chin on the seat in front of him. “And she still lets other people at school say those mean things to her. Why doesn’t she just tell them what she can do?”
“Despite agreeing with you, I don’t think she wants that attention.” Gokudera’s eyes lit up with sparkles while watching Terumi.
“You’re right.” Yamamoto said flatly, “I’m quite familiar with that feeling.”
“Besides, Terumi isn’t the kind of person who craves fame and power,” Reborn said. “She still denies the position of Vongola boss, the greatest mafia family in the world. Just a pathetic attention from those peers can’t be compared to that.”
The tango beat ended with applause from the audience. The announcer thanked the dancers and announced the next dance, viennese waltz.
Hibari swayed and turned around with Terumi in his arms along the floor. The viennese waltz, which was a dance that consumed stamina as much as four-hundred meter running, was quite difficult to dance for ordinary people. It wasn’t a problem for Hibari who had a lot of strength. Terumi, practicing with the strong boy for years, could follow his strength after some practice.
And that was one of the reasons they won again.
“Congrats, Terumi! Hibari!” Everyone said after the pair received their gold medals. Terumi smiled widely, in contrast to Hibari who frowned.
“Just, a moment, Hibari. Only one picture and you’ll be free from us.” Reborn set his camera on the floor, then jumped into the frame with them, Between Terumi and Hibari at the center.
It was quite chaotic. Nevertheless, Terumi asked Reborn to hang that picture in her bedroom.
