Chapter Text

A few weeks after Nicole’s appearances on the late shows, things with the media seem to have calmed down. The pair decided to have Nicole neither confirm nor deny their relationship status, and she handled it like the pro she is by cracking jokes and redirecting Fallon’s questions since she was interviewing with him alone.

The paparazzi eventually get bored with stalking Waverly and have mostly left her alone. However, she’s grown so comfortable being at Nicole’s house, that she rarely goes to her own place anymore.

Which is where she is now, holed up in the office working on a spec script for Emily, who is still mentoring her and testing her abilities. She’s been at it for a few hours already, but when Nicole tries to quietly come in to replace her tea and leave, Waverly stops her by grasping a fistful of her shirt-tail.

Nicole turns back with a smile and leans down to give the brunette a lingering kiss, “how’s it going?”

Sighing with a sense of accomplishment, Waverly smiles lazily, “it’s going well. This particular idea came to me pretty easily. Of course, I’m trying not to overthink it and psyche myself out that I’m being too simple.” She chuckles self-deprecatingly.

“I’m sure it’s great, but if you’re truly worried, then write two.” Nicole shrugs at her like it’s no big deal.

“Yea, maybe,” the brunette chuckles. “I do have a question for you though!”

“Shoot!”

“You’ve had every room in the house decorated just about, except this one. It’s a bit plain.” Waverly laughs as she looks around.

A cute smile curls Nicole’s lips as she glances around also before shrugging sheepishly. “Truthfully?”

“Always,” Waverly tilts her head in intrigue.

“I don’t use this room much, but I knew when I bought the place that you would need a quiet place to work. So, I figured I’d let you decorate it in whatever way makes you the most comfortable.” Nicole rubs the back of her neck shyly.

“You.. what-?” Waverly stammers, eyes wide.

“I hoped that you would spend a lot of time here,” Nicole murmurs, a blush heating her cheeks now. A nervous laugh creeps past her lips before the redhead holds out her hand to the silently stammering brunette. Pulling her girlfriend up and into her space, Nicole feels her body relax at the feel of Waverly’s warm body fitting perfectly against hers. “Honestly, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the time you already do spend here.” Her voice is soft, like she’s sharing a secret.

Waverly feels her breath catch in her throat and she doesn’t move a muscle as she anticipates the next words to come from Nicole, her heart hammering in her chest.

“I know it may seem rash, but it just doesn’t feel right when you’re not here with me,” she trails off, but her voice is strong and sure.

Waverly bites her lip roughly, her eyes burning hot with unshed tears.

“Will you move in with me?” Nicole whispers sweetly, a bashful smile curling her lips, as her eyes search the gorgeous hazel eyes locked on hers.

“Yes!” Waverly responds breathlessly, a wide smile breaking across her face as a few happy tears roll down her cheeks. Laying her forehead briefly against Nicole’s chest, the brunette lets out a slow breath, “it doesn’t feel right being apart from you either,” she admits on a wistful sigh.

When she looks back up into Nicole’s eyes, she finds the sweetest smile awaiting her and shining mocha eyes. “I love you,” the redhead tells her gently.

“I love you, too,” she murmurs before closing the gap between their lips. “Let’s go shopping!” she exclaims a second later, causing the redhead to laugh.

“Lead the way!”

The pair spend the day going from store to store, buying decorations and things of comfort to design the office to Waverly’s preferences.

Then they go to her townhouse where they pack up some of the brunette’s most important things to bring to Nicole’s house. Their house. Their home.

They don’t get everything, but they make a plan to spend the next week going through what she wants to bring with her.

Robin and Jeremy are ecstatic about their news and share that they too have been discussing moving in together as well. The couples go out for a huge celebratory dinner.

Nine-ish Months Later

“Haught, I swear to god, if you don’t stop pacing I’m going to hog tie you to a chair!” Wynonna snaps at the frantic movements of her best friend.

“I can’t help it! I just want Waves to get here already!” Nicole almost whines, shaking her hands to try and stop them from trembling.

Rolling her eyes, Wynonna steps in front of the redhead, placing her hands on her shoulders. “Hey, look at me! Right here!” she points her fingers towards her eyes. “Take a deep breath, dude.”

Nicole does as instructed, and the older Earp gestures for her to do it again.

“I’m not entirely sure why you’re nervous, but I’m going to take my best guess and say that it has something to do with your previously failed relationship,” Wynonna states bluntly.

“Gee, thanks,” Nicole rolls her eyes.

Wynonna smiles softly now though, leveling her gaze back with Nicole’s, “but this is Waverly!” she whispers in excitement.

An easy grin spreads on the actress’ face, “it’s Waverly.”

“She’s gonna say yes,” Wynonna continues, her own smile growing.

“She is?” Nicole answers nervously.

“She is!” Wynonna croons, “and then you’re gonna be stuck with me foreverrr!” she adds dramatically.

“That’s it, I’m out!” Nicole says seriously and moves to walk away.

“Very funny, Red!” the brunette grips her a bit tighter and Nicole laughs.

“You live in Canada, so it’s really like you don’t even exist,” Nicole shrugs.

Blue eyes narrow indignantly as Wynonna scoffs dramatically, “asshole.”

“Correction: best friend.” Nicole points at herself with a charming smile.

“Damn straight!”

Wynonna holds up her hand for a high-five, but the pair are interrupted by Jeremy rushing into the room and announcing, “she’s here!”

So the brunette high-fives herself with an eye roll before her and Jeremy are rushing away to their hiding place where the rest of their close friends are already.

Nicole hears the far door open and holds her breath in nervous anticipation.

“Nicole?” Waverly calls out, confusion in her tone.

As Waverly walks further into the sound stage, her confusion turns to surprised shock as she comes around a wall blockade to find her gorgeous girl standing in a halo of fairy lights and stage candles, holding a single red rose in her hand.

“I thought it was a little strange that you asked me to meet you on stage ten,” Waverly whispers when she’s close enough.

“You checking my schedule Waverly Earp?” Nicole asks with a tender smile and raised eyebrow.

“Someone has to keep it in line,” Waverly grins back.

Shaking her head with a laugh, Nicole holds a hand out to her favorite person in the entire world and sighs at the buzz across her skin as it’s accepted. She’ll never tire of the way their connection still blazes after a year together.

“You can always check on me,” Nicole murmurs as the brunette steps into her waiting arms.

Waverly just smiles sweetly before kissing the redhead gently.

“I love you,” Nicole whispers, her nerves surfacing once more, but her heart beats a mile a minute, reminding her that there’s never been a decision she was surer of.

“I love you,” Waverly whispers back, a wide grin of anticipation curling her lips.

“I’ve known since the day I met you right here that you were going to be important to me. I felt our connection during that first handshake when my skin tingled. We may have fought a little in the beginning, but I like to blame that on our uncontrollable passion.”

Waverly giggles at this, shaking her head at the memories.

“But the truth is, I figured out pretty quickly that you were the one for me. That you were the other half of my soul. That you were the missing beat in my heart.”

Biting her lip nervously, Nicole slowly drops down onto one knee as she pulls a box from her pocket and gently takes Waverly’s left hand in her own.

“Waverly Erin Earp, will you marry me?”

With tears streaming down her face and her throat tight, Waverly nods eagerly, unable to speak.

With a watery chuckle, Nicole slips the ring onto her fiancée’s finger before jumping up and swooping the brunette into her arms to spin her around.

Waverly giggles before curling her hands around flushed cheeks and sealing the moment with a happy kiss.

“Congratulations!” is shouted from around the pair and Waverly is caught off guard by all of their friends surrounding them.

“Wynonna?!” Waverly exclaims and leaves her fiancée’s embrace to jump into her sister’s arms. “What are you doing here?!”

Pulling back to meet the older brunette’s gaze, her heart melts at the sight of tears on the always stoic face of her sister.

“I wouldn’t miss this for the world, babygirl.” Her sister whispers before wiping away the evidence of her emotions. “I’m so happy for you,” she adds before giving her baby sister another tight squeeze. “And Haught Rod!” she calls as she releases Waverly moments later. “Good shit.”

“Such a way with words, Wyn, you sure you’re not the writer in the family?” Nicole snarks as she comes to stand with Waverly.

“Hollywood couldn’t handle the genius that would come out of this brain,” the older Earp scoffs.

“I’m sure,” the sarcasm is clear in the redhead’s voice.

“The limo is outside! Let’s celebrate!” Jeremy announces and everyone cheers in agreement.

The newly engaged couple allow their friends to get a head start, both needing a minute to soak in the moment.

“You said yes,” Nicole murmurs, her voice sounding awed.

Cupping the redhead’s cheek in her hand, Waverly smiles contently, “I’ll always say yes to you, Nicole Haught.”

Hugging Waverly tightly to her, she brings their lips together in a tender kiss.

“I love you,” Nicole breathes out, resting her forehead on her fiancée’s.

“I love you.” Waverly smiles, her heart full.

18 months, 3 weeks and 4 Days later

“Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time, The Haught-Earps!”

The doors open to reveal Waverly and Nicole in a tight embrace, kissing deeply.

Cat-calls and whistles can be heard around them, breaking them from the spell of one another with bashful grins on their faces.

“Shall we, Mrs. Haught?” Nicole asks her new wife.

“Let’s do it, Mrs. Earp.” Waverly’s grin manages to grow before the girl’s giggle girlishly.

The pair enter the room full of their closest family and friends, their hands tightly clasped as they walk into the center of the dance floor to share their first dance.

Nicole twirls Waverly who giggles along before she pulls the smaller woman in close, melding their bodies together as the soft piano melody of their chosen song swirls around them.

One look at you
My whole life falls in line
I prayed for you
Before I called you mine

“You are so beautiful, Waverly,” Nicole murmurs, emotions thick in her voice as she leans her forehead on her new wife’s.

“Haught as hell,” Waverly chuckles back, happy tears shining in her eyes.

Oh, I can't believe it's true sometimes
Oh, I can't believe it's true

“I love you,” the redhead smiles widely, “Wife.”

Laughing openly, her head thrown back momentarily in total glee. “Say it again,” she demands softly, gripping gently in red locks, tugging teasingly.

“Wife,” Nicole husks, darkening eyes locked fiercely with hazel.

“God, it sounds so sexy when you say it,” Waverly grins seductively before pulling Nicole into a wanton kiss.

I get to love you
It's the best thing that I'll ever do
I get to love you
It's a promise I'm making to you
Whatever may come your heart I will choose
Forever I'm yours, forever I do
I get to love you
I get to love you

And they say love is a journey
I promise that I'll never leave
When it's too heavy to carry
Remember this moment with me
