Visitors to Alola:
Tory Lund
He felt Plusle and Minun leaning to look around as they headed up the steep hill. He’d let them out of their pokeballs when he’d seen all the other pokemon riding or walking with their trainers on the island. “There it is Tory the famous Alola Pokemon School,” Yuko said pointing ahead to a building up ahead. “We just have to confirm the plans for your dad’s quick visit after the conference with the Principle Samual Oak.
He nodded and sped up to match Yuko’s pace, the man who ran the observatory hosting the conference where his dad was speaking this week had asked him to drop buy and visit the school his cousin attended as a treat for the students. He wasn’t really looking forward to that but he was looking forward to the chance to catch another pokemon. Ever since Plusle and Minun had let him officially catch them they’d added one new friend from every region he visited with his dad and Yuko. He’d been told the forest behind the school was one of the best places to catch wild Pokemon in Alola. He hoped he could find a Rockruff there, Audrey and Katheryne had shown him photos of it when they came with their brother to the Battle Tower again.
Yuko waved and he looked to see there was a man standing there in a lab coat with no shirt and a small chubby red haired kid. “Mrs. Yuko I’m Professor Kukui and this is Sophacles Molayne’s cousin,” the oddly dressed Professor said. “He’s here to show Tory around the school while we handle the final preparations for Professor Lund’s visit.”
“Come on I can’t wait to introduce you to my friends and tell them that Professor Lund the man who discovered Deoxys is coming to the pokemon school.” the boy said in an excited tone. “A legendary pokemon from outer space I’ve always wanted to see one.” He was used to folks going on about Deoxys so he wasn’t surprised when the boy asked the usual question, “Where you in the city when Rayquaza and those two Deoxys had that huge battle?”
“Yeah we were,” He said and Plusle and Minun voiced their agreement. He didn’t offer any other details because experience had taught him that folks either didn’t believe him or wanted to pry way to much when they found out all the details. He’d met a lot of other folks who had encountered one or more legendary pokemon and it was true across the board that most of them didn’t talk about it too often mostly for the same reasons.
“That is really impressive I mean we get to see the Island Guardians and the Ultrabeast from another dimension which are pretty cool but I really want to meet a legendary pokemon from outer space.” He had of course heard about the Island Guardians but he had no idea what an Ultrabeast was but he’d wait and ask his dad and not his new guide. Sophacles seemed okay but he was clearly the type that if he thought he could get away with it would ask every question possible.
“Pika!” a loud exclamation sounded and then Plusle and Minun were shooting down form his shoulders and running over to a familiar looking Pikachu and a similar but much rounder looking small white and silver Pokemon. It had the look of an electric type.
He was surprised so he quickly looked around and saw Ash and several others approaching. He would never have guessed that if he ever saw Ash Ketchum again it would be in Alola of all places. “Tory, I thought that was you and you brought Plusle and Minun with you.” Ash was smiling, “So you caught them?”
“Yeah shortly after you left LaRousse City ,” the others gathered immediately began asking Ash how they knew each other. He sat back as first Sophocles told them who he was and Ash related the bare bones of their meeting in the battle tower. “You left out that I had no Pokemon and was afraid to touch them at the time so then you loaned me your Torkoal and I cost us the battle.”
The blond girl Lillie he reminded himself let out a shriek before apologizing, “I’m sorry I’ve just never met anyone else who wasn’t able to touch Pokemon for a while before.” After that the whole story spilled out and everyone was commenting on how similar both their situations were.
“Larousse City sounds so incredible I’d love to take a trip to see see it some day,” Mallow said and many of the others agreed cheerfully. Ash of course joined in mentioning random things from the city which had to make him smile since one of the things Ash brought up was having to eat all the junk food from the broken robot.
“Wait Ash were you in the city when those two Deoxys and Rayquaza had that big battle?” Sophacles asked holding the small silver and white pokemon that he now knew was called Togedemaru. He had been hoping after the earlier questions that Sophocles would have dropped it but now that everyone knew Ash had been there it looked like everyone was going to ask about it.
“Yeah, Pikachu ended up on Rayquaza’s head at one point,” Ash said clearly without thinking about it at all. Pikachu chirped an agreement as all the others were staring at Ash in a way that seemed to be surprised and not surprised at the same time.
“So the Island Guardians and Sol Galeo weren’t the first legendary pokemon you ever saw huh Ash?” the blue haired girl Lana said after a moment. Ash gave an affirmative noise but didn’t say anything specific. “So what was the first one you ever saw?” She asked in a curious tone. He could tell all the others wanted to know too.
“Oh that was Ho Oh, Pikachu and I saw it flying by after a storm on our first day together didn’t we buddy,” Ash said and Pikachu once more chirped an affirmative. He could tell everyone was shocked by that and clearly were bout to ask more questions but Ash turned to him and said, “By the way Tory do you have any other pokemon besides Plusle and Minun?”
“Yeah, I try to get one pokemon from each Region I visit with my dad so far we’ve been too Sinnoh, Unova and Johto.” He began to let them out, “I caught Buizel here in Sinnoh, Elgyem in Unova and Houndour in johto.”
“Hey your Buizel only has one spot on it’s back mine has two,” Ash said staring at the back of his. He glanced around to see several of the others had exasperated expressions on their faces.
“That’s Buizel’s gender difference,” the blue haired girl Lana said, “You’re Buizel is a boy and this one is a girl.” She was staring at it intently. “I just love water pokemon.” Ash didn’t seem bothered by being corrected.
“Do you intend to catch a pokemon while you’re here in Alola?” Kiawe asked after a moment. “And If so do you have a specific one in mind?”
“Yes I wanted to catch a Rockruff but I’m open to catching nearly anything if any can’t be found around here.” He said and saw them exchanging glances.
“Ash didn’t your Lyconroc come from around here as a Rockruff when it lived with Professor Kukui?” Lilie said asking Ash who looked a bit confused and then shrugged and nodded at the same time. “Is that a yes or a no?”
“I think the Professor said it did but I don’t quiet remember, we can ask Rotomdex when he gets back from sitting in on the meeting and I’m sure he knows if there are any around here and we can help Tory look for them if there are.” The others quickly volunteered and he was reminded of the time Ash and his friends had tried to help him get over his fear of pokemon.
Later as he sat on his bed in the hotel watching his new Rockruff play with his other pokemon while waiting for his dad to call before he turned in for the night. He had to admit it had been a lot of fun as the entire group had headed through the woods looking for a Rockruff for him. They’d finally found it with help from a flock of bird Pokemon that Ash’s Rowlett had known. All in all he was looking forward to the rest of his time on Alola even more now since they’d asked him to join them again tomorrow.
