The Yellow Suitcase

Chapter 17

Notes:

Tuesday got away from me. It was a busy day preparing for my kids to return to school after being out for a year and a half. Here we are on Wednesday and it's their first official day back. I can't even explain how excited I am.

Thank you all so much for reading this story. What started out as just a silly little oneshot turned into something I rather enjoyed writing. This is my tenth completed Sanditon Fanfic. I have one more, my Bridgerton/Sanditon crossover story (expect an update for that very soon), to complete before I step away. It's been an honor to write for this fandom, but I'm not going to write anything other than Sidlotte or Crowson stories. It seems the appeal for those pairings is dwindling as new stories are popping up with the new characters. I don't have much desire to write these new characters. I'll leave that task to someone else. Thank you again to all of you who have stuck with me throughout this journey of yellow suitcases.

Chapter Text

The Second Epilogue

Sidney and Charlotte stood proudly on the red carpet of the film Sidney not only produced, but also the first film he wrote. He worked on the screenplay for years and the only one who ever read it was Charlotte until he felt like it was ready. Charlotte was extremely proud of his accomplishment. He set out to do something and he made it happen.

Over the last ten years, Flynn and Sidney focused a lot of time and energy on getting their production company up and running. They started out small and slowly worked their way up to bigger and better films. Flynn and Alison starred in many of them, whether together or separately. Flynn and Alison were considered a power couple in show business. Sidney called some of his past clients to be in productions he was working on, which was great for many of them who hadn’t had much luck landing roles. Obviously, Eliza was not someone he ever called to be a part of something he was working on. She had successfully tanked her career by being blacklisted as someone who was difficult to work with. No one had really heard much about her for nearly ten years.

This time was Sidney’s big moment. This was his film, his creation, his words flying off the screen. It was what everyone had been telling him to do for years and finally he made it happen. He couldn’t have done it without Charlotte always encouraging him and giving him the strength to do something new. He also couldn’t have done it without the inspiration from Sunny. His script was about a wild dog saving a couple who were lost in the arctic.

Sidney protectively held Charlotte close to his side as they walked along the red carpet. Charlotte was dressed in a maternity wear SEW original. When Charlotte was pregnant with her first child and she needed to go to a premiere of a film Sidney and Flynn produced, she called up Susan and asked if she had any suggestions on what a woman who was six months pregnant should wear. Susan was given instant inspiration and started a maternity line of gowns, which Charlotte proudly wore and promoted on the red carpet. When Charlotte and Sidney’s second child was due, Charlotte didn’t make it to the newest premiere of a movie Sidney had produced, given how pregnant she was. Sidney hadn’t planned to attend either, but Charlotte insisted. Sidney made a quick trip and rushed right back just in time for their daughter to be born three days later.

Now, here she was pregnant again with their third child and at another premiere. Although, this premiere was special and not something she was going to miss. After the screening, Charlotte looked to Sidney who had a nervous expression. She knew he wondered how his creation would be received. “You wrote something amazing. I couldn’t be prouder,” Charlotte assured.

He grinned and took her hand in his. “I couldn’t have done any of this without your support. I certainly feel much better about failing knowing that no matter what you will still be at my side.”

“Always,” she promised.

Sidney drew her face to his and kissed her deeply. Even after ten years of marriage she still made him happy and was his biggest supporter. There was no other in life he wanted beside him than her.

Their kiss was interrupted by a round of applause and congratulations being given. Everyone had great things to say about the film. Sidney was overwhelmed with the amount of acclaim his film was given. This was what Sidney had been dreaming of and working towards for ten years. Now it seemed possible to do even bigger and better things. The possibilities seemed endless. Although, his biggest accomplishments were, by far, falling in love with Charlotte and becoming a father.

The day after the premiere, Charlotte and Sidney returned home and were greeted by their happy six-year-old son, Blaine, their adorable three-year-old little girl, Sienna, and their overly excited dog, Sunny. Charlotte leaned down to greet them with hugs and kisses. Sidney placed their suitcases aside and picked up Sienna in his arms and tossed her into the air, causing her to giggle with joy.

“Me next, papa!” Blaine cried. Sidney placed Sienna down and picked up Blaine, tossing him in much the same way as he did Sienna. He giggled with joy as well and hugged Sidney tightly.

“Were you two good for Aunt Esther and Uncle Ben?” Charlotte asked.

“Of course, they were,” Ben assured with a slight chuckle. “They are always such a delight to watch.”

“We had lots of fun, didn’t we?” Esther added.

“Thank you again for watching them,” Charlotte said.

“Anytime. You know we love them as if they were our own,” Esther said. “We’ll leave you alone now to rest and spend some time with your family.”

Ben and Esther gathered up their own children and headed home. What made Charlotte and Esther’s relationship even stronger was being pregnant at the same time. Esther and Ben had two little boys the same ages as Blaine and Sienna. Getting pregnant at the same time was never the plan, but somehow it happened both times. Given that Charlotte was pregnant with her third, she expected to get an announcement from Esther and Ben that they were expecting a third as well, but so far it hadn’t happened.

Charlotte and Sidney sat on the couch and listened to their children tell them all about what they did with Auntie Esther and Uncle Ben. Charlotte was exhausted and started to drift off while sitting on the couch.

“Why don’t we go into town and get some lunch while your mama gets some rest?” Sidney suggested, motioning for his kids to grab their boots and coats.

Sidney stood and patted Sunny on the head, who had protectively snuggled in next to Charlotte and placed his head against her belly. He grabbed a blanket off the back of the couch and placed it over Charlotte, before leaning down to kiss her cheek. “I love you,” he whispered. A smile spread across his face as he admired how beautiful she still was to him.

Sidney helped Sienna get her coat on and zipped up both hers and Blaine’s jackets before leaving the house and giving Charlotte some time to rest.

“What should we get to eat?” Sidney asked, while he held both of their hands and walked towards the doors to their favorite diner.

“Pancakes!” Sienna shouted.

“Poutine!” Blaine added.

“Pancakes and poutine it is!” Sidney laughed. As much as Sidney liked the excitement of the entertainment business, he enjoyed the simple things, like eating a meal with his children, more than anything else. He watched with delight as his children squirmed in their seats while waiting for their food to come. They sipped their hot chocolate and giggled with excitement to be out with their father. Sidney thought about how perfect his life had been since meeting Charlotte. Everything he had ever wanted had happened thanks to her. She was the light that brightened his very dark existence. She had given him the most amazing life all thanks to a yellow suitcase.

AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER

THE END

Notes:

If you know anything about this story, you should know their children's names have a special meaning. I had to use the color yellow one last time. It is, in fact, my favorite color.

~~Although I have moved away from Sidlotte fanfiction, I am still writing original stories. I'm currently publishing a story to Kindle Vella and Laterpress simultaneously called "Connections." This is a modern office romance with lots of spice. These are semi-new writing platforms for those unfamiliar with Kindle Vella or Laterpress. Kindle Vella is currently only available in the US and is run by Amazon. It's set up similar to fanfiction, where a new episode (chapter) is posted one at a time. The first three chapters are always free, and you'll purchase tokens to read further. Each chapter's cost is based on how many words are in each chapter. Many writers on the platform keep their chapters short (500-1,000 words). This is hard for me. I do my absolute best to keep the chapters (episodes) around 1,000-2,000 words. Laterpress is another platform for writers to post on, but relatively unknown. The great thing about Laterpress is it's available in most countries. The TOS for publishing a story on Kindle Vella somewhere else states it has to be behind a paywall. I've set it up similarly where the first three chapters are free. After that, it's a flat rate rather than a chapter-by-chapter cost. I'd love for anyone interested in reading more of my stories to find me on either of these platforms. Currently, I'm publishing Connections and nearing the end. Afterward, I'm debating on whether to continue my original story I started a while back called "Waves" (possibly being titled differently going forward) about the dollar princess era of the late 1800s. I'm also working on another story with the working title of "The Love of Linnie" set in the late Regency or early Victorian era. I'm still trying to decide whether to post this story on KV and Laterpress or hold off and attempt traditional publishing. Regardless of where I post or what I write, I'll keep everyone up to date on what I'm doing on Facebook under my pen name Aubree Clay.
