Eddie couldn't care less that he sounded too smitten for someone who never planned to have a hybrid in the first place.
He believed Fate had brought Steve to him as compensation for all the bad things that had ever happened to him. And since there was no way around it, he decided to accept his gift.

Summary
Steve never tells anyone about Billy. He watches Max disappear into herself with grief and guilt but he can’t bring himself to tell her that he feels it, too. That he knows the loss is mixed up with hatred and relief, but is still pure in the way it pierces something fundamental inside of him, and he gets it. He just never tells anyone.
But then there is Eddie Munson, with a wickedness that feels wholesome and warm and slowly, Steve is starting to think he might want it. He just doesn’t think he can figure it out without first figuring out how to let go of Billy.
